I am eclectic, musical, and reserved.

My Self-Summary

I am relatively easy-going. I don't try to schedule every minute of every day (though when I do schedule something, I try my best to stick to it). I have a professional job, and rent a comfortable house. I enjoy finding restaurants I have never tried before, and often like cooking at home. I enjoy reading fiction and nonfiction, to try to figure out what's going on in the world, and to compare the reality to an idealized fictional version. I spend some of my time singing karaoke, chatting online, catching live music, and having dinner out with friends. I also have an interest in things that fool the consciousness.

What I’m doing with my life

Recently, I spent part of a week in New Orleans, watched the Art Car Parade with friends, saw a great Motown revue at Miller Theatre, and traveled to visit friends in Dallas. I'm also involved in an interesting game with a group of friends.

I’m really good at

Explaining the things I think I understand. People have told me that they were able to grasp a concept after I had explained it, that they previously found elusive.

The first things people usually notice about me

I would say people notice my singing voice. Despite my six-foot tall frame, people don't tend to notice my height.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Authors: Lois McMaster Bujold, Harry Turtledove, Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, Paul Auster, Jane Smiley, John McPhee, Kim Stanley Robinson, Clive James, Spider Robinson

Movies: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Amelie, The Illusionist

Music: I'm all over the map, but some recurring favorites are: The Beatles, Eagles, Genesis, Poi Dog Pondering, Yes, Kings X, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Talking Heads, Joe Walsh, Sting, Bob Marley, Little Feat, David Bowie, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Steely Dan, Spinners, Stevie Wonder, Beth Patterson

Food: mediterranean, salads, smoked meats, spinach and garlic pizza

The six things I could never do without

I don't think there's anything I could never do without. Life throws a lot of opportunities and crises, and I adapt to each.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Everything, really. From the underpinnings of the economy to the trends in music to group dynamics within my group of friends to scientific developments to my "to do" list.

On a typical Friday night I am

Having dinner with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

When you feel a connection with someone, you learn a little more about yourself. You learn why you are attracted, and whether the person can be right for you in a relationship. You learn what your own desires are, and how you can tap into those desires in choosing to be with someone.

I'm looking for someone I can feel special when I am with, and who can feel special when she is with me. Someone I can share my life with, all the pleasures and the challenges. Someone who can feel totally comfortable around me, and we can grow together.

You should message me if

You want to get to know me.
