I am straightforward, honest, and analytical.

My Self-Summary

I am an easy-going guy looking for friends and fun dates, and people to just be comfortable and be myself with. I am hoping to find people who want to show me new things, share what they like to do, and who I can share my interests with too.

I love very ounce of Portland, I love exploring and adventuring through the city, finding new places and things in it to do, especially those rare obscure gems.

My Myers-Briggs personality type is INFJ - the Counselor. An introvert, an idealist, a romantic. This is pretty accurate for me. As an introvert, social interaction for me consumes energy rather than creates it. I need alone-time to balance and recharge my energy. I am also less spontaneous. I desire deep, meaningful connections with a select few individuals rather than a plethora of friends. A lot of websites describing personality types sound like so much bullshit but I strongly relate to this one.

I am very dedicated to my friends. I seek out people who value honesty, openness, and communication; people who are supportive and non-judgmental.

I live by the golden rule - treat others as you would want to be treated, be the change you want to see. I try to be fair and honest to a fault.

I dislike flaky people (if you have to flake at least make it up, that goes a long way with me,) people who mistreat others when it suits them, and judgmental people (such as those who don't have any desire to understand others before writing them off.)

I am not an alpha male. I'm not the flashiest, loudest, nor the assholiest guy on the dance floor. But always seems these qualities are inseparable.

What I’m doing with my life

I work in software validation. I test other peoples' code to make sure it works in the development stage, before release.

My goal is to return to school and a change of careers to constitutional and contract law. I want to pursue something I'm passionate about rather than just a job.

Improving my pool game, playing Rock Band in bars and pretending I know how to play guitar.

Becoming a minimalist and investing in efficiency. I value lightweight furniture and ultra-low power electronics. But I've accepted that there are some things I can't bring myself to get rid of; my books, and my bed. Everything else I want to free myself of, or minimize.

Being a fair-weather bicyclist.

And of course I'm here, aren't I? Meeting lots of new people and making some good friends along the way, and maybe one of those will turn out to be "the one".

I’m really good at

Giving advice (sometimes). Analyzing things, analyzing emotions.

Fixing your computer.

Reminding everyone of the threat that Skynet represents.

The first things people usually notice about me

My height. I'm 6'4". If I'm sitting down, my eyes. I'm also quiet, I listen more than I speak.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

There are too many good books to list. My favorite authors: Tolkein, Palahniuk, Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Richard Feynman, Neil Gaiman

My favorite movies: Fight Club, Donnie Darko, Big Trouble in Little China, Big Lebowski, Dark Knight, The Naked Gun, Airplane!, Star Wars, The Jerk, The Royal Tenenbaums, Super Troopers, Office Space, Inglorious Basterds

My favorite music: Tenacious D, Electric Six, MC 900 Ft Jesus, Franz Ferdinand, Spoon, Queen, Michael Jackson (when he was black), 80s new wave, The Cure, Depeche Mode, my buddy's band Get Down Jones and the Delegation, my other buddy's band The Food, The Chemical Brothers, Beastie Boys. I like electronica and most alternative music. Favorite song: Tribute.

My favorite foods: Mexican, Italian, all kinds of Asian food, (Indian, Thai, pho, dim sum, sometimes sushi), and even just plain sub sandwiches. Eggs benedict. Turkey dinner with stuffing and gravy, and cheesecake! Almost anything as long as it doesn't come out of a fryer.

Favorite TV shows: Rachel Maddow, Doctor Who, Sifl & Olly. I don't like cliffhangers so I'm choosy about my TV and prefer to download after a series is complete rather than subject myself to cliffhangers, commercials, and TV addiction. However, I'm a Doctor Who fanatic, I download an episode as soon as it's available.

I think that your radio listening choices also tell a lot about you and who you are likely to get along with. I like to listen to NPR and KNRK, probably in that order. Sometimes Air America too.

The six things I could never do without

A hot shower
A cozy bed
Clean socks
My iPhone
A cooling breeze when it's warm
A warm drink when it's cold

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Staring at the stars and contemplating the sheer vastness of the universe and all the things in it. I should have been an astronomer.

Time travel. ie. Are one-way time travelers doomed to die? I'm noticing it in a lot of time travel fiction lately. Donnie Darko, Bender's Big Score, the Doctor Who episode Turn Left.

I really love that stuff. If you have anything interesting to say about time travel you need to message me.

National politics in general and issues of presidential power in particular, especially indefinite detention and torture. A lot of issues really bother me but those in particular are totally abhorrent and indisputably wrong, and I'm very passionate about that.

(I read a lot of current events.)

On a typical Friday night I am

I haven't found a typical Friday night yet.

Unless I'm staying in and planning on excitement on Saturday night instead, I'm going out to bars, restaurants, or coffee houses, and likely out with friends at any of those places. Looking for cheap pool, and especially someplace cozy to drink and socialize. I hate noisy bars where you have to yell to be heard.

Nothing particularly extraordinary. But then again, it wouldn't be typical, would it?

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I still think Michael Jackson jokes are funny even though he's dead.

You should message me if

You like introverts.

You know what someone like me can do about stopping and prosecuting torture. Or you can tell me how difficult law school is. Or you want to tell me about your favorite place to get take-out teriyaki in SE Portland. Or you know of some good sci-fi that plays with the concept of time travel. Or you know how to stop Skynet. Or you really do prefer "friends first" and it isn't just a way to sideline somebody for you.

You understand that conversations are more like tennis than golf. You hit the ball back and forth with your partner, not over and over by yourself until it's in the ground.

You say what you mean and mean what you say. Sometimes I am unexpectedly dense.

Don't be shy about sending me a woo if you want me to notice you. Being shy myself sometimes I need a little nudge, and writing a good, thoughtful message takes a lot of effort, and there are a lot of girls out there. So if you are waiting for my message, it helps me to find you ;)
