I am clever enough, demented, and a traveler..

My Self-Summary

I like to run/bike/etc around, especially to new places. I'm 29. I travel a lot, and I teach, I am a young scientist studying the geological evolution of mountains. Baton Rouge is home, I like the people (diverse fellow wackadoodles), the weather (warm, haven't been blown away yet), the food (too luscious for everyday, but still) and of course the river. The football enthusiasm is infectious but for the most part my immune system is holding up.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm an LSU prof, so I'm trying to do great science, great teaching, accomplish tenure, etc. I have lots of work to do on all fronts, so I'm happily busy.

I’m really good at

coming up with ideas and solving problems, canoe tripping and doing field trips, chattering about anything and everything, working and its opposite.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm happy to have conversation veer off into unexplored territory. I guess in Louisiana it's pretty clear I'm not from here, but I find lots to enjoy where-ever I go - so I have a place on a parade route :)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My taste is broad and democratic, I just don't like to be bored. (Mostly) straight outta facebook:
Books: My Family and Other Animals (G. Durrell), The Brothers Karamazov (F. Dostoevsky), The New Emperors (H. Salisbury), etc.
Movies: A lot of comedies from Groundhog Day to Kill Bill to The Big Lebowski, Spaghetti westerns and all sort of kung fu-ishness, Spirited Away (and anything by its director), I saw Where the Wild Things Are recently and it was slow but lovely.
Music: lots lots lots. John Adams, Air, Arctic Monkeys, Beatles, Beastie Boys, Biz Markie, Bjork, Cake, Franz Ferdinand...
Food: I'll have that.

The six things I could never do without

....shunning the obvious, (1) folks far, near, and dear to talk with (2) something cool to work on, (3) something to look forward to, (3) music or enough privacy to make my own, (5) the absence of a long driving commute (I used to live in L.A.), (6) nonsense.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

rocks, academia, friends, family, life, going places, near-future fun.

On a typical Friday night I am

Anything I'd do any other time - eating / drinking in or out with friends, working, watching a movie, etc.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

bah humbug, aka, I don't know what to do with this question.

You should message me if

you think we'd have fun together and you don't take geology classes at LSU, ha.
