My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
This is probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I am not a nutshell kind of gal but here goes. Who am I? Good question. I would love to say that I am your average OreYorkiForiGonian.
I've been there, done that many a time but that doesn’t make me jaded. I have finally found my equilibrium in PDX. Like most people, I like to go out (dinner, bars, etc.), but prefer to temper the "out" with afternoons at Powell's, tackling a saag masala recipe from scratch, or cozying up on the sofa for a movie marathon. And with spring fully upon the city, much time will be spent in the yard keeping weeds at bay and propping up the garden.

I love to craft: how many people do you know who can take a fleece and make it into something? I have a lot of nervous energy which I try to utilize or else bad, bad things will happen. Which could be rather interesting depending on one's fortitude.

My personality is rather pacific yet not so mellow that I let the world pass me by. I can respect the gentle humanity in the everyday but recognize that I don't have to succumb to it. Life has so much to offer that I find there is no reason not to embrace it.

I am looking for someone who can keep me on my toes (figuratively, mind you!). A person who can appreciate the mundane but knows that it isn't a death knell. I also appreciate someone who loves working with his hands: I don’t necessarily care what it is but I have found that creativity in a partner is important. Something I have discovered in the last few years is that I look for mind expansion with great communication. If you cannot express yourself, look somewhere else.

I know the difference between الحمص and حماس.

I can tell you how to do something awful with your mother's dog in Croatian. that, and ask for ice cream.

I am steadfast, quirky, and true
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm on the third phase of my life. after being a corporate drone and a business owner, I realized a dream and went back to school. I like being responsible for my own destiny instead of being in someone else's hands/goals/five-year-plan. raising my daughter and having a great time while doing it. Dealing with too much responsibility but doing it with a sense of purpose and a smile.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
mystifying people with my intellect. No, really, I have somehow picked up a lot of odd knowledge and can pull out facts at really strange times. Speaking too many languages at once and none of them very well. Baking. Knitting socks that fit. Freaking out old people at the market by spontaneously dancing while shopping (this also disturbs my small person which makes it doubly fun).
The first things people usually notice about me

that I am female. After that, your guess is as good as mine.

I was discussing my profile with my best friend recently and he remarked that he's never seen me in pants. It's true. I don't like jeans or trousers for I find them terribly uncomfortable. I'm either in gym togs or a dress (sometimes there's a skirt...). In spite of this, somehow I always manage to dress appropriately for just about any occasion.

I read too much. Reading Alif the Unseen at the moment (and a lot of dreck at the gym). finished Shusaku Endo's The Sea and Poison as well as Perfume by Suskind recently. Some all time faves: Microserfs by Douglas Coupland; Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris; The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera; Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins; Demian by Hermann Hesse; A Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin; practically anything by Bill Bryson; The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand; Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby; Possession by AS Byatt. I also read the New Yorker every week, do the New York Magazine crossword religiously, and read the NYT online every day.

Recently bought my first electronic book thing. I have found that it is an almost perfect medium for trash novels. even so, I am still ambivalent about using technology to read a book. as I nearly went for an MLS, I like books. a lot. I adore the feel of paper slipping between my fingers, the heft, that one can fold down a corner to mark something (or pen, pencil, crayon, whatever, to underline an important passage), even the dust that accumulates on a shelf as the tomes ever so slowly decompose. best part, I'm allergic to book dust mites so my love of books and libraries lends itself to a masochistic streak. I will happily suffer red eyes and a stuffy nose if it means I can peruse odd corners in a book shop.

Movies: my top five. North By Northwest; Betty Blue; The American President; Die Hard (the second film); Pride & Prejudice. I also have a strange soft spot for They Live. Don't ask. really. I don't think I could explain it even if I wanted to. a few other favorites: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; Serenity; Secretary; Sliding Doors (way too many Ss at this point!); Lust, Caution; Marina Abromivić: The Artist is Present; Run, Lola Run; practically anything by Ken Burns; The Philadelphia Story; Witness for the Prosecution; I'll add more as I think of them...

Music this week: Lia Ices (Grown Unknown- I highly suggest a listen); The Knife; KMFDM; Ella Fitzgerald; The Shins; Pixies; Cake; Grace Jones; Marvin Gaye; Zero 7; Morcheeba; Preservation Hall Jazz Band; Bauhaus; The The; Massive Attack; Ministry... the list goes on.
In the last hour: Sylvan Esso, Depeche Mode, Contagion, M.I.A., Heartless Bastards, Die Antwoord, The Black Keys, DiJ, Off the Wall-era Michael Jackson, Beastie Boys, Bowie, The Shins... I will say this: I have been lucky enough to see what I consider the holy trinity of trip hop live: Massive Attack, Morcheeba, and Portishead. now if I can get Thievery Corp and Tricky in there, I might as well explode!

Food. Well, I like to eat. Favorite cuisines: Indian, Mexican, practically anything spicy but not hot. I am also a 95% vegetarian. There is 5% that refuses to give up bacon. Because come on, bacon is its own food group. And yes, I am that sort of freak who goes to In-N-Out and orders a grilled cheese animal style. and when I am feeling really random, I get it protein style too.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.

fairy lights illuminating a darkened yard
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
the world and my place in it. how to get more power from my stroke on the rowing machine. trying to make the most of each day when I have almost too much to do (not that it has ever stopped me). homework and how to conjugate verbs. why so many people in Portland are obsessed with hiking. How I ended up so lucky in my life....
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
there are no typical nights in my life. I could be studying, watching some random Disney show with my small person, cooking something interesting for a dinner party, drinking bourbon, or out on the town, among other things.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
that I dance like a white girl.

I collect Foo dogs.

My favorite pair of knickers has "Hello Kitty" emblazoned across the ass. In fuchsia.
