My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I just moved back to LA after living in DC for two years. I love both cities, but I love LA a little bit more.

My favorite thing in the world is the show Mortified. (Perhaps you've seen the movie "Mortified Nation"?) I've been performing in the show for years. Nothing brings people together quite like their middle school diaries.

After living in DC, I think I'm a West Coast personality at heart. I like things that are arty and quirky more than serious and important. The cliche about the west coast works to live, and the east coast lives to work -- it's truer than I realized, and I'm solidly in the former camp.

Lately, I'd rather wake up early for the farmers market than wake up hungover from the night before. (This is very different from how I felt a year ago, but for now, we'll go with it.)

Right now, I'm looking for a sidekick (a friend or a date or something in between) who wants to explore this city with me: museums, plays, random festivals, happy hours, that random sushi place, etc.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I worked in entertainment in LA for a half dozen years, then went to grad school in public policy (like you do). I moved to DC for a tech policy fellowship, but now I'm back for new adventures. I'll keep you posted.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Keeping my fingers on the pulse of this city. If there's a street festival or an obscure indie flick in town, chances are I know about it. Wanna go with me?

I shave my head.

Supposedly, early male-pattern baldness is a sign of high testosterone. *ahem*
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I have way too many favorite books to list them all. I'm kind of a book nerd. I love David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs. My favorite author is probably James Baldwin. Here's a short long list: Jonathan Franzen, Michael Chabon, Joan Didion, Don DeLillo, Fyoder Dostoyevsky, Lorrie Moore, and A.M. Homes. I also love pop economics books, like Freakonomics, and actual economics books, like Crisis Economics. (Let's hang out some time and talk about books. Seriously.)

Shows: South Park on TV and This American Life on, uh, radio? Lately I've also become obsessed with Girls.

According to my iTunes play count, my favorite artists are The Magnetic Fields, Sufjan Stevens, The Hidden Cameras, Interpol and Arcade Fire. I also love Freelance Whales, Fun., Beirut, Interpol, Of Monsters and Men, Iron & Wine, Suburban Kids with Biblical Names, Fleet Foxes, Jens Lekman and Clem Snide. Basically, if you're a melancholy boy with a guitar and a good metaphor, I probably listen to you. I also like early Radiohead but that probably goes without saying. And I will always have a soft spot for Alanis, Tori, and Liz Phair. I like trashy pop when I'm drunk and dancing, but I rarely listen to it on my own.

I like Thai food and whatever weird fusion that trucks are serving these days. But, honestly - I know this makes me so unhip - I could eat pasta and pizza for days and days and days.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Even though I like to present myself as a cultured gentleman of higher aspirations, I'm really not. You can take all of life's truth and beauty as long as I have its material indulgences.

As long as I have

good coffee,
rich pasta,
comfy blankets,
sunny days,
good music,
and hot sex,

I'm a happy camper.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.

On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
watching a movie? My Friday nights tend to be not-so-typical these days. Not quite as into the bar/club scene lately. Instead, a chill dinner with friends. Watching a movie - either in or out. Sometimes an actual theater. Sometimes nerding out at home and reading or learning how to code.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
is that I hate people who write "If I told you, it wouldn't be private!" - or some variation thereof. It's a question of gradation not absolutes. That's a lot like being asked, "Who's your shortest friend?" and responding with, "All my friends are tall!" If you are one of those people, I roll my eyes at you.

you want to grab a drink, or dinner, or lunch, or coffee, or whatever. (Basically, I'd like to meet in person and preferably consume something.) Friends are cool, dates are better, or we can leave it ambiguous if you like uncertainty.
