My self-summary
New bullet point format for your easy-listening pleasure!
* My hair is yellow/orange now. What was I thinking buying the bottle of H2O2 in Hawaii? No picture here, but you are warned!
* I have lived and worked in Africa and China.
* I have travelled all over and am still excited about upcoming trips.
* The last amazing trip was completing the Camino de Santiago.
* I have three degrees. Though I started a fourth, I am (hopefully) done with official academia.
* I am less than six degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon.
* Three years completely debt free from the education, mortgage, and car. And loving it!
* Don't drink, don't smoke. (What do you do?) Never married, no children.
* I have a good sense of humor and don't sweat the small stuff, which is most stuff.
* Life is too short for football.
What I’m doing with my life
* Bought a kayak! I have been thinking about this for a while and took the plunge.
* Just got back from hiking coast to coast across England. Two weeks of stunning views and challenging terrain.
* Recently finished a complete renovation of a Civil War-era house.
* My new job is so great! Finally, I have found a nice work/life balance. Or so I think.
* Being active is important. Love hiking and cycling. Hate solo, focussed exercise like at the dreaded gym.
* Creative outlets include mosaics and quilting.
I’m really good at
Keeping perspective.
The first things people usually notice about me
My crazy glasses seem to disarm (and alarm) people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I tend to like fiction of no particular genre. My favorite writers are John Irving, Barbara Kinsolver, Haruki Murakami, and William Gibson to name a few. Books that I have read recently include A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, The Dun Cow, a book by Clive Cussler, and the Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens. I have three more cracked at the time I write this.

Movies usually disappoint me. I never mind not watching to the end, even if it means leaving the theater. Having said that I do enjoy Raiders of the Lost Arc, The Matrix, The Princes Bride, Big Fish, Lost in Translation, Rushmore, Under a Tuscan Sun, Charade, Raise the Red Lantern...

I enjoy serialized tv shows more than movies. Buffy, Firefly, Dexter, American Horror Story, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Weeds, you get the picture. Reality tv bites. Unless you are talking about the original reality tv: PBS!

Also, my hand goes up for all in favor of NPR! Music is magical, and my tastes are all over the place. I can handle a little of just about anything. My own collection of music is quite wide and am happy to listen to something new. Unless it's garbage. But love Garbage! Right now 70s punk rock has piqued my interest. Also Cincinnati's own Foxy Shazam puts a smile on my face.

In terms of food, I am pretty health-minded. Raw, steamed, and sometimes stewed is how I have to eat. "Food allergies" limit my diet, and I rarely eat out. When confronted with a pretentious salad or nothing else on the menu, I would rather eat in.
The six things I could never do without
Really, I have started over a few times and know that there is very little that is necessary. While I have a lot of "things", they are, after all, just things. However, I will attempt it. #1 sarcasm; #2 a book to read; #3 carrots; #4 corrective vision; #5 the color blue; #6 The Pixies.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think about where I want to go next. This may be a day hike, a weekend outing, or a longer vacation. The Lycian Way and St. Olfa's Way both sound like interesting hiking experiences.
On a typical Friday night I am
I am usually watching a movie over a light dinner while preparing for a well-rested Saturday adventure!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am a closet Blondie fan. One way or another...
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 40–49
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
I am really looking for a long-term relationship. This can only happen through some common ground. Outdoor exercise is essential. Also if you can't see marraige in your future, or something like it, please pass me by. While that takes time to develop, and there are no guarantees, that is what I ultimately want. A best friend and life partner. Hopefully starting on a website will cut through some of the nonsense. Life is a story; I would like to hear about yours!
