I read a fair amount -- either for entertainment (mysteries) or for
a real purpose (management, parenting). Some favorites: management
(Lincoln on Leadership), murder mysteries (Dennis Lehane, Sue
Grafton), parenting (Children: The Challenge), I even read The Girl
with the Dragon Tattoo books and loved them. Though fantasy doesn't
interest me, I read the whole Sword of Truth series.
I love to eat Indian, Thai, and Mexican and I love preparing it
myself. Breads in particular... rye, sourdough, naan, tortillas,
foccacia, cinnamon rolls, or even simple cornbread. I only hope to
meet someone to cook for/with.
I prefer movies that entertain over those that make you think. I
love superhero movies or movies with a really powerful main
character: Iron Man, Act of Valor, Black Hawk Down, 300,
Braveheart, Gladiator, Gandhi, and even The Lion King. My favorite
movie is Lonesome Dove, a little-known masterpiece portraying at
least a half-dozen archetypes. I love comedies, too, especially the
British ones like Snatch. Buttery popcorn is a must-have.
Music? I'll listen to anything that has a good beat or a singer
with a lot of emotional energy. For the latter category, I usually
go to songfacts.com to read what the singer was feeling and meant
when the lyrics were written -- there's usually a neat story there.
Because I love it all, a playlist of mine might include Tool,
Carrie Underwood, some unknown electronic artist, Hank Williams Jr,
The Offspring, some bagpipe tunes, Outkast, and a few movie scores
by Hans Zimmer.
