My self-summary
My ideal Portland summer evening is biking all night until two AM after catching a show followed by a Prince v. Bowie themed dance night. I love living in this city, one weekend I can go out with some friends camping and climbing at Smith Rock, and the next I can meet some amazing people and learn Spanish at Intercambio at a library in East Portland.

I love spring and summer and I actually don't really enjoy snow too much. I grew up in Hawaii, so I am much more used to rain (but maybe not overcast skies!). It's great to have it for a day or two, but honestly when there's too much it is too hard to bike around. I just head east or west of the city when I want some snow in the winter.

I love to learn because I enjoy solving new sets of problems. I also like to make to-do lists, but not quite as good at completing them. I keep active year round, and would love to meet someone with similar interests. Of course, I'd love to learn some new sports and things too!
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I'm working full time helping children with special needs. Often in my work I act as an advocate to ensure kids get the help they need to succeed in school. I work closely with the student as well as the teachers and parents. Sometimes it feels like there's a lot of politics to get through, which I do not like, but more often it feels great to see a kid grow through the years.

I also read a lot, getting through books at the library. And I am teaching myself piano! Wish I had tried it out sooner as I love it. Also I'm working on my Spanish: conversation has been key in improving my language skills.
I’m really good at
making a plan and sticking with it. In high school I ran Cross Country and Track, which were great fun and helped me get some good habits. Recently I've been interested in going more team sports. I'm good at finding weird esoteric events and checking them out. Sometimes they suck, sometimes they are amazing! I remember the first year they did the Bike Play at Pedalpalooza, so glad I discovered that.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am compassionate. At least that is what my friends say. But they try to be nice. People often comment that I keep very busy. I feel that I am pretty shy, but people have told me that I am very open and friendly.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love reading about some forgotten or weird film or book and then seeking it out and watching it. This past Halloween I watched "The Asylum" which is a pretty cool collection of three unrelated stories within a framework of a guy applying for a job at a Mental Asylum. The previous director went nuts is now a patient and if the new guy can figure out who he (or she?!) is, he's hired! Timecrimes (fun with a nonsensical time travel plot! and crime!) and some books by Phillip Jose Farmer are some other weirder stuff I've been checking out.

Kurt Vonnegut is my favorite author. I've read nearly everything he's written (I think I'll skip his essays and some of his more modern stuff. I haven't liked what I've seen so far). Of his novels, my favorites are Bluebeard, Galapagos, and Mother Night.

Some shows I am enjoying now or have enjoyed:
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
Dead Wood
Arrested Development

My favorite book I've read in the past year is Pale Fire by Nabokov. I'd really like to read more of his works, but honestly I am a bit terrified of what I will find. Also really liked Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Finishing up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books.

I also read comic books/graphic novels. I've loved everything by Brian K. Vaughan that I have read. Alan Moore is a nut, but also great.

Some of my absolute favorite movies are Brazil, The Last Temptation of Christ, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and 12 Monkeys.

Some music I like:
Y La Bamba
Magnetic Fields
David Bowie
freezepop
Flight of the Concords
Broken Social Scene
Octopus Project
Santigold
My favorite band to see live:
Thao with the Get Down Stay Down
The six things I could never do without
My bike

The library

A good book to read

A pen and something to write on - I have a pretty bad memory, anything I want to remember I need to record somewhere.

Water-proof materials - it sucks getting wet.

open fields- the best place to spend the day
I spend a lot of time thinking about
my doorbell. When you gonna ring it? When you gonna ring it?
On a typical Friday night I am
Climbing with a friend or two. After that we often check out a new area of Portland. Hanging out with some friends or watching a movie at one of the awesome second run theaters this city has.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I really like dancing like a fool.
