My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
My name's Josh. I'm a pretty quiet person, which I guess is mostly a manifestation of being shy. I'm not the type to go out to do something on my own usually, if I'm alone I'd be just as happy (or happier) sitting at home playing video games or watching a movie. I've always identified as (and been typed as) an introvert, but I do like to go out and be around people. I guess I just need something of a safety net.

I like to think that I'm laid back. I try not to stress over things that I can't control, or just in general.

I'm a fan of Kurt Braunohler's idea of inserting humor and/or stupidity into everyday life whenever possible.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
That's something that I'm trying to figure out. I guess that's a bit of recursive logic to say that what I'm doing is trying to figure out what I'm doing, but I don't have a better succinct answer.

I work in an office during the day and then spend my nights and weekends mostly at home in front of one screen or another. That's where the figuring things out comes in.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I haven't the slightest clue. I imagine the fact that I'm typically a quiet person, especially in the company of people I don't know, is near the top of the list but I will at least verbally introduce myself so I'd guess it takes at least a minute before that becomes clear.

I assume people will have noticed at least something else in that time.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I'm trying to read more lately, but I didn't for much of my adult life so my favorites are pretty much either things I've read lately or things that I read in high school. It's easy to say that The Lord of the Rings is on the top of the list. I'm also a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire and pretty much anything by Neil Gaiman.

My favorite movies include anything by Edgar Wright, Children of Men, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the nerd staples of Marvel superhero movies, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings (see: books), and many more that I won't go into.

The two best shows of 2013 were Orphan Black and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and I'll wholeheartedly recommend those to everyone. They're also as different as night and day. Other than those, I love Game of Thrones (again, see: books), Parks and Recreation, How I Met Your Mother, Comedy Bang Bang, and True Blood. I could stay here for day if I went into the shows I love that aren't on the air anymore, but I'll limit myself to saying Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Journeyman, Happy Endings and Veronica Mars.

I listen to a variety of music, but my current favorites include Haim, Kacey Musgraves, Of Monsters & Men, The 1975, and CHVRCHES. My longer standing favorites are Talking Heads, Foo Fighters, The Clash, and old Offspring.

My favorite foods are simply pizza and burgers, but I will never believe you if you try to tell me Pizza Hut's burger-stuffed crust pizza is actually palatable.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My cat, internet access, games to play (video/board/other), books to read, beer, and friends to drink and play games with. Give me those six things and I'll be fine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend a lot of time thinking, period.

I think about the future a lot, and the past (usually in "what if" scenarios.) I think about people, friends that I miss spending all my free time with.

I think about scenes from books or movies or tv shows or video games that get replayed in some altered form in my mind. I remember jokes for no discernible reason and can't help but laugh to myself.

I think about what movie did I hear this song in? And usually end up resorting to Google to help me figure it out, because if I don't I'll just end up obsessing over it until days later when I finally remember.

I think about everything, and nothing, and often can't even tell you what was going through my mind five minutes earlier because I don't remember.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
About 1 in 3 Fridays I spend with friends in a nearby city. The rest of the time I usually stay in and don't do much. As I mentioned, I'm not one to do stuff on my own usually and all of my local friends are coupled up so that they don't get out much either.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
You'd have to prod me to find out. I'm not terribly afraid to admit most anything, but I do need assistance in knowing what needs to be admitted.
