My self-summary
I'm warm and funny. And smart. And kind. In all seriousness, I'm not really very self-indulgent or self-involved. But I am pretty cool.

I like sports. Good food. Good movies. Politics. The stuff most people like. I also love snow and weather in general. I write about it. I research it. I chase snow when we don't get it here. I probably should have been a meteorologist. I love listening to and seeing music. All kinds.

I try not to complain, be negative, or judge others too harshly.

I am liberal, sometimes passionately so, but I am not an ideologue. I like reasoned discourse. Facts matter to me. I don't feel the need to act more knowledgeable than I really am. I don't need to render an opinion on everything.

I try not to get stuck in my own head. There is too much else going on out there. But I am self-aware enough to know I am not creepy. I have more than a modicum of social skills, and people are comfortable around me. I have pretty decent etiquette too. I like to thank people. When I go to someone's home I show up with something. I am considerate.

I don't have a litany of requirements or a "type". If you're funny, confident and comfortable in your own skin, there is a good chance I will dig you. And hopefully you aren't boring, because I'm not.
I’m really good at
Remembering meaningless trivia and minutia, and not what I did 5 minutes ago.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've been told I have a good voice for radio (I have actually done a little).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am not a snob. I don't care much for critics. But I think I have pretty good taste. Though I don't really believe in "guilty pleasures". If you like something, you like it. I am not pretentious.

Movies - Love classics, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Woody Allen (I am part neurotic Jew), the better mob films (both Godfathers, Goodfellas), and more recent movies that are at least decent. I was a film minor in college so I have been exposed to a lot. I find myself going to the movies a lot more these days.

Books - I am not an avid book reader though I am literate. I have started to read more as I do really enjoy it. Books I have on my iPad now - Into Thin Air, The Stonecutter, NW, The Corrections, Game of Thrones, In Cold Blood, The Joy of Living. I've started 5 of the 7 and finished none. I tried to read Ulysses a couple years ago and got through 10 pages before I gave up. I have a better chance of winning Powerball than I do finishing Game of Thrones.

TV - Currently - Mad Men (best of the bunch), Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Homeland, Dexter, Damages, Top Chef. I even dig Girls and find Lena Dunham kind of hot. Loved the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Seinfeld.

Music - Jam Bands, particularly the Dead. I saw them about 40 times. Also have seen Phish a ton. Love good classic rock, especially the Stones (Exile, Sticky Fingers), Springsteen. Love Jazz (more than blues) and Reggae. I have pretty eclectic taste in music. My iPod is loaded and the selections are pretty diverse. Just going through the ABC's currently on there - Allman Brothers, The Band, Beatles, Billie Holiday, Blues Traveler, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Chet Baker, Clash, Cocteau Twins, Credence, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Cure. I love live music and see a lot of shows, though not like I used to.

Food - I am a quasi-foodie. I like almost anything as long as it is well prepared and tasty. I have a pretty good palate. If food sucks I notice, though I am not snobby about it. I definitely go out to eat way more than I cook. I'd like to change that.
The six things I could never do without

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Starting to play guitar again.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends, poker, chilling at home, traveling, movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am almost 2 years sober. I don't have any problem being around alcohol and even enjoy going to a bar on occasion, but I am trying to focus my time on sober activities. I know a lot of people enjoy good wine/wine tastings, good beer, a drink in the evening. That's cool. But if your social life revolves around alcohol/bars, or drinking is an integral part of your life, we probably won't be a good fit.
