My self-summary
One of my favorite things to do growing up was hang upside down on the bar in my backyard. The blood would rush to my head while I swung slightly back and forth, testing the fortitude of my knee pits while singing randy travis's diggin' up bones. I still seek upside down time as often as possible. When I get to a new beach or mountain top, I tend to do a handstand. I am currently getting hot and heavy up into aerial dance, which is opening worlds of choreography, upper body building, music editing, and unitard production.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm just over a year out of grad school currently working as a speech and language pathologist in an elementary school in harlem. The best part of the work is the time I spend helping the kids with their very apparent difficulties with communication. My ten year plan includes a working at sesame street as a ventriloquist teacher (yeah that is actually something I'd like to do, but I'm just looking for how to get there).
I’m really good at
enjoying a quiet moment (which is what happens when I don't know what to say)
long distance bicycle trips (thinking Oregon distilleries this Summer??)
deadpan, reverse sarcasm, and the occasional slapstick
diplomatically and tactfully calling a spade a shovel
brushing my teeth while talking
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
my input reflects the mood :

DOWNERS:
-Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, Jolie Holland, Nick Drake
-existential novels, beat poems, Dostoevsky, Camus
-beer, rye whiskey, goat cheese, baklava, bbq brisket

UPPERS:
-Andrew Bird, Paul Simon, Dirty Projectors, Sean Hayes, Arcade Fire, Beirut
-Radiolab, ecstatic poetry, David Sedaris, Lewis Carroll
-coffee, potatoes, olives, avocado, cayenne, agave

SUSTENANCE:
-Anaîs and Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Y La Bamba
-menus, recipes, emails, postcards
-homemade bread, olive oil, cous cous, peanut butter, spanish tortilla

OUTLIERS:
-Joanna Newsom, David Bowie, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Operation Ivy
-scientific papers, Louis CK, Oliver Sacks
-molasses, mole, cilantro, basil, pistachios, salty chocolate
The six things I could never do without
juggling pins and high ceilings
purple vegetables and loose tea
bicycle bags and a down comforter
puns, palindromes, and lists
my passport and journal
orange juice every morning, coffee on occasion
I spend a lot of time thinking about
ambiguity and subtle meanings
what a word might spell if the letters or sounds are reversed
where expressions originate
spoonerisms that may be freudian slips
On a typical Friday night I am
After leaving work in east harlem, I might make some extra stops on my way home: I'd ride through Randall's Island, play in the sculpture gardens in queens, get chicory coffee in long island city, hear some music wherever it is that night, and then jump in the river in red hook.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm afraid of ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and pickles. Sorry.
