juvenescent, succinct, and sedulous
My self-summary Propose an edit
-I'm from England with a clear Surrey, South East accent
-I'm quite tall: 6ft 1 (185cm)
-I'm Asian (both my parents are from Hong Kong).
-I've taught in Changwon, South Korea and now Fuji/Fujinomiya in
Japan.
-I don't like seeing myself as 'teaching kids', I prefer trying to
see the classroom as trying to create favourable factors where
learning happens and a state of 'flow' can be achieved. Basically
it's tuning into that magical state of complete and utter self
emersion. 'Flow' as a concept was coined by psychologist Mihály
Csíkszentmihályi back in 1975.
-I'm essentially a happy and easy going person. I envy people who
have that single minded bulldozer like drive to go and get what
they want. I need that quality more in my life.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
-teaching in Japan
-studying how to make it past third grade Japanese (I can tell the
difference between hiragana/katakana/kanji)... But I need to
practice, practice practice!
I'm really good at Propose an edit
-I like knowing about the source/origins of things and I like
trivia and information that flies under the radar... eg Leonardo Da
Vinci never ate tomatoes in his lifetime (because the time period
he was alive Tomatoes were thought to be poisonous).
-Listening. I like trying to understand why things are the way they
are even if that means listening to people or views that don't make
sense to me.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
-Tall
-chinese
-my accent (british)
-stumbling across the odd curveball quirky word in my vocabulary
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
-Most Japanese Studio Ghilbi anime eg Spirited Away, Ponyo and
Princess Mononoke.
-Alternative history books - David Icke's 'The biggest secret', A
vegetarian history, Mona lisa: A history on the world's most famous
painting)
-I like abstract films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and I'll be
entertained by David Lynch stuff too. The best films however are
the films where you care about the characters and that is why I
think films like Shawshank Redemption, Once (set in Ireland),
Heartlands and Smoke are wonderful films. I'm not part of the 'Saw'
or 'horror film reboot' generation.
-With music I go through phases:
Acoustic
I have a strong bias for Acoustic Guitar music. I write and try to
sings soul searching songs along the lines of Damien Rice/Teitur. I
also love English/US folk music especially Martin Simpson and
Pierre Bensusan.
Trance
I adore pure yummy sounds in Trance music. To be more specific:
OceanLab, BT, Chicane, SolarStone.
Abstract mess with your head stuff
I went through a phase of listening to John Cage and Aphex Twin to
push what you should classify as music. I tend to play safe now cos
I value my sanity.
Classical
I like Mozart. I've listened and enjoyed a piano piece which was
used to measure stimulated brain activity in a specific problem
solving task (the K448 Piano concerto). It's the only piece of
music I can think of that is good enough to be stimulating yet not
distracting at the same time. All the other music I like, tends to
garner my full attention while listening.
I haven't seen a great movie for ages but I really love these films
'Once' and 'Tanguy.' I'm beginning to love the charm of very old
classic films more and more. They don't make 'em like they used to.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
