I am easy-going, self-assured, and modest.
My Self-Summary
I was born in England and moved to New Jersey when I was 11. I
lived in Jersey for 10 years and then I moved to New York for law
school.
I'm pretty open about most things, but I really don't like
arrogance and feeling entitled.
I'm not very effusive, but I do value being direct. Whoever
mainstreamed Passive-aggressiveness deserves some serious
punishment.
I also like politics. I'm liberal on almost all issues, but their
are a few outliers.
I'm also a huge soccer (I still call it football, I don't care how
long i've lived here) fan. Manchester United is my team, even
though I am from nowhere near Manchester. I was a little glory
supporter in my younger days and they've just stuck with me ever
since. When it comes to national teams, i'm definitely an England
fan, but I also like to see the USA do well.
What I’m doing with my life
I recently decided to drop out of Law School during the first month
of my 2nd year. I am currently deciding whether to pursue a Masters
degree in Public Policy/Administration or National
Security/Intelligence Studies. Next semester i'm going back to
undergrad to take some prereq courses and the GRE. After that, i'm
looking to work for a few years before I go an get the degree. I
have a general outline for what I want to do, but i'm flexible and
willing to change if something suitable comes up.
I’m really good at
- staring contests
- rock/paper/scissor
The first things people usually notice about me
My accent (Since i've lived in the USA for a while, I have a
English-American hybrid accent. Basically, no-one knows where i'm
from when they talk to me)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I find it a bit ridiculous when people take this stuff too
seriously. I value enjoyment over 'artistic value' (whatever that
means). Anyway, here goes...
Books = I'm not an avid reader but I recently finished The Road and
i'm going through a bit of an Alan Moore phase at the moment.
Movies = dramedies (Lost in Translation, Sideways), absurd actions
films that have little plot (Mad Max), horror comedies (Drag Me To
Hell, Zombieland), music films (High Fidelity, 24 Hour Party
People). If Con Air or Cocktail is on TV you might as well just
pretend like I don't exist because their is no way I am leaving my
seat.
TV = The Wire is my undisputed #1. Mad Men is pretty great as well.
For comedy, I dig Curb and Arrested Development.
Music = your usual indie/alt classics (Pixies, Replacements),
pop-punk (Buzzcocks, Undertones, old Weezer, Exploding Hearts),
britpop (The Stone Roses, Blur, Pulp, etc.), Springsteen and bands
who have ripped him off (The Hold Steady, Gaslight Anthem), Spoon
and Tom Waits. My favorite new band is probably Free Energy.
Food = cereal (I have been known to eat this stuff for the whole
day). As a treat, I will gladly dominate a completely unhealthy
diner meal. I'm also a big supporter of low-fat stuff because it
means I can eat twice as much without feeling bad about it.
The six things I could never do without
- Family
- Friends
- Music
- Little bizarre moments in the day
- Comedy, in all its forms.
- Soccer
I spend a lot of time thinking about
- why do people spread their legs on the subway? do they really
think it's going to stop me from asking them to move over?
- why do bike-riders in Manhattan refuse to obey traffic
laws?
- why is it that the people who say "i'm not weird" always the
weirdest?
- If headphones didn't exist, would everyone just have great
conversations with strangers at the gym?
On a typical Friday night I am
out with friends bar-hopping, at a concert, drinking at the apt
with the roommates.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I am a secret sci-fi nerd (though I have managed to contain this to
myself, so it will never be a problem in social situations)
Madonna's album The Immaculate Collection is a permanent resident
on my iPod.
You should message me if
You want to have a bit of fun and don't get bothered by stupid
things.
