My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
My friends call me a firecracker.
I'd say I'm quick and kind, a smart aleck who might be a softie. I cook. Hiking calms me down and good coffee revs me up. I laugh easily, am slow to judge and like to sing to myself. I have East Coast notions of loyalty and respect, and over time have come to believe only a few things really matter: kindness and compassion, patience and a quick wit. Dancing in the living room. Silliness.

My life has been an adventure, and I'm looking for a Lewis to my Clark: a man who's kind, hilarious, smart and works hard at what he does.
Is that you? I hope so.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm an Ellie-nominated food writer, I travel all over the US for my research work, and have my own business. Which I love. My life and career keep expanding, and I'm up for the ride.
Really, I try to be kind to myself and others every day. Stay balanced emotionally, physically, spiritually. Enjoy what's in front of me and laugh at the absurd. It's a good life.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
cooking, dancing, laughing, telling stories, cracking people up and working things out. Upsetting religious fundamentalists while remaining polite (it's a gift). I listen. And I read people pretty well.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes. Sometimes LA people say I have a "bright energy." I take it as a compliment.
Also, some people ask if I grew up on a farm. Ugh. But there are worse fates than looking perpetually wholesome.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Authors: Beckett, Cather, Kingsolver, Hemingway, H.D., Franzen, Chabon, Lois/Bill W. and Roald Dahl. Short stories by Breece D'J Pancake and Denis Johnson. I have an astonishing cookbook library. (Yay!) And I like detective novels when I can't sleep.

Music: I have a piano, like dancing to Jamaican dancehall, prefer music live when possible. I love the symphony- the rest, later.

What, no art question? Rothko paintings, love Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, illuminated manuscripts (I got to see The Book of Kells in Ireland and it was AWESOME), I like feminist vaginal art from O'Keefe to Judy Chicago, the beautiful repeating patterns you see in Persian art/architecture/everyday objects, and Chinese and Japanese scroll paintings from the Middle Ages.

Food: Pho (I wrote a story about LA's best pho!), real Italian- I eat and appreciate everything except turtles. Won't eat turtles. I like food that is well-conceived, uses good ingredients and is beautifully executed, from a $2 tamale or banh mi to serious cuisine. And my cooking is dope.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Good coffee in the morning.
My piano.
The plays of Samuel Beckett.
My friends and marvelous niece and nephews.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The way time and space interact, the quality of light, why the red finches attacked my thyme plant, recipes, food I like, the American food system, why Texas is the way it is, writing and the people I love.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
either out and about going to three different things, all of which I'm excited about, or somehow have nothing to do at all.
When that happens, I'll have dinner with a friend, then maybe wander around a bookstore. That's a great Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Sometimes my socks don't match. Judge if you must.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You are self-aware, kind, a good eater, smartypants, hilarious and have good manners. And fun! Let's have some fun.

Also: I want something real. A meaningful connection with a great guy. I'm not into your threesome, Internet Man. (Though I'm sure it'll be hot.)

So send a note! I'd be happy to hear from you.
