My self-summary
Well, a person is quite a thing to summarize, eh? In short, I am a classical musician with musical tastes far beyond just that, and I spend a lot of time smiling and/or laughing. I'm a dork and a goof. Be warned: I might drop some really bad, self-aware puns. I take life seriously, but I don't take myself seriously.

I love living in NYC....otherwise, I would have run away by now.

I enjoy random walks around the city, in Prospect or Central Park, going to concerts or shows, and spending time with my family and close friends. A really good beer never hurts, either.

Also, and this is probably important; I am in a wonderful relationship, but a non-exclusive one. While neither she nor I is specifically looking for a "partner" per se, we're both interested in meeting new people. So if you're comfortable with that situation, then we should absolutely be hanging out!
What I’m doing with my life
Short answer: making music.

Longer answer: Trying to make a living through a combination of performing and barista-ing. Letting life carry me along; I figure it's bigger than me and could probably beat me up if I tried to mess with it, so I allow it to do its thing.

Also, having recently finished my Master's in classical music performance, it's worth noting that my parents bought me a banjo as a semi-ironic graduation present.

I went to Afghanistan this January to teach music for a week and a half. It was an extraordinary experience to be in such a different place, and to work with students who, had this been 12+ years ago, would have been persecuted for playing music. This trip has resulted in a serious travel bug; I'm already plotting both my return to Kabul, and my next global destination.
I’m really good at
Music, making coffee, cooking delicious food. My sense of humor is pretty strange...sometimes I don't even get my own jokes. But my mother thinks I'm hilarious.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Very abridged lists:

Authors: Saramago, Hemingway, Wilde, Roddy Doyle, Pasternak, Vonnegut, Cervantes, and while not a "book" per se, The New Yorker.

Music (kind of in order): Classical, Bluegrass, Hip-Hop, Folk, Mande Kora Music, Jazz, Blues, Rock

Food: Almost everything. Always open to trying new things, and I love going to farmer's markets and letting what's there inspire my next meal.

I haven't had a TV in several years, so I watch just a few things on the computer-machine: Daily Show, Modern Family, and the greatest show ever, Arrested Development.
The six things I could never do without
Ah internet, you are so very good at over-simplifying my life.

1. Music
2. Coffee
3. Friends
4. Good Food
5. Books
6. Autumn
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Music (probably sounding like a broken record by now, eh?). There's always something in my head. It might be Bach, something modern/avant-garde, bluegrass, or hip-hop. But there's definitely something playing in my brain, always.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either at a show as a performer or audience member, or practicing. Cooking, eating, and drinking are also possibilities.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I won my school spelling bee. Three times.
