My self-summary
The great Cook’s Illustrated editor Christopher Kimball once wrote a piece describing the happiest moments in his life – waking up with his family by the fireplace in the great room of their vacation home in New Hampshire, attending a Grateful Dead concert in college, etc. If I had to choose just a few of the happiest moments in my life, I’d choose walking along the beach of Ocean City with my one-year-old nephew as the sun rises. Next, waking up to the sounds of waves and a monkey beach camping in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Perhaps now, the moment of my three brothers getting married - a collective moment. Later, standing on a roof of a tour bus on Pine Street during the Phillies World Series Parade while people stage dived into the crowd. Backtrack a little across the Atlantic now, the view of the countryside from atop the mountains of southern Spain - driving in an old Land Rover listening as my cousin explains how the olives are harvested. Jump forward a little in time and I am walking quickly through moonlit Barcelona with no map, just a scribbled sheet of loose leaf leading me towards a private party. Back home now, climbing the Adirondacks, cut up by the pines seeing my breath in the cold with no contact to civilization for four days, getting slightly lost and feeling scared but orienteering back home. Lastly in the East Village eating Japanese barbeque and Udon and drinking those big Asahis looking at a screened back door of a noodle bar adorned in all those flags thinking just for a moment, if I get up and walk out the back door, I will surely be in Japan, even though I've never been.

i have been down this same road so many times, my biggest fear is that i will look around and feel that perhaps it was a mistake to make such calculated choices, take so few risks...but its not too late and the euphoria of spontaneity is so powerful.
