Things I value most are authenticity in myself and my relationships, service to others, and learning about life, mainly by experiencing others. I am fascinated by and find joy in interaction amongdifferent people, and have been blessed to have spent a fair amount of mycareer overseas. Faith is essential to me, for without God's hand, nothing can stand. I believe in living out my faith in an open, loving way, a way some churches don't seem to get. I strive to nurture the spiritual, emotional and physical wellbeing for myself and all around me. I like to think deeply butalso love to hang out and just be. People who know me say I am thoughtful, sincere, funny, deep, gentle... But I'm far from perfect and I take that as abasic life orientation: seeking to get better all the time.
I believe in and practice social justice. My volunteer work is with those who are homeless. Some is purely on the spot (e.g. serving food) but mostly I’ve done workshops and resume writing to help people of all kinds find work so they can rebuild and live their dreams.
I like to sing and play guitar—although I’m just an amateur. I’m told that I sound good, but I find the most important thing is the creative outlet is good for my soul.
Always I follow track and field first at the Olympics because I love the sport. I ran the sprints (100, 200, 400) in college, Division III. Love track, football, basketball. Don’t play as much anymore, mainly run and workout (sit-ups and pushups) regularly.
Also really love travel, and enjoy all of it. Learning, seeing, tasting, encountering, relaxing. Especially feel at peace in the Caribbean, but I can find good things anywhere.
Fortunately for me, I can eat and enjoy almost any kind of food. And I have been even more fortunate to sample such delights as injera in Addis Ababa, sashimi in Tokyo and fish-head curry in Singapore.
Romance, beauty, truth, passion. I seek all of these in life so I suppose that makes me an unabashed idealist. But why else am I here? Why should I not look for the best in myself and others, and put my energies towards the good? That’s the way I think and feel and act.
