My self-summary
These things never sound quite right but there's a kind of satisfaction in rambling in them. :)

General status: only really been in open relationships in the past, with all their excitement and trickiness and hard work and reward, just like any good friendship/relationship.

In a relationship with a fella in Ottawa (one central example of something/someone amazing just randomly, beautifully falling into my lap). Finally stopped making excuses about travel, so heading for a European adventure with my partner this summer, then saying adios to Vancouver (for some time, at least) and moving to the awesomeness that is Montreal.

Not ruling too much out but at this point in my life/year/Spring, mostly open to developing close (huggy, truthful) friendships with guys or gals.

The basic thing is that I've no idea where I'm at. None.

All I know is I want friendship, I want connectivity and sociability, and beyond that is speculation. The best things--and people--have got into my life by chance and a bit of chutzpah and that's really all I could ask for.
What I’m doing with my life
Creating one of these for some reason.
I’m really good at
Derping.

For a few months, the above was all I had on here and I got kind of used to people primarily commenting on my silly, silly username haha.

But seriously, derping.
The first things people usually notice about me
Laissez faire attitude about some stuff that's also mixed with a perplexing intensity about stuff I like. I can lamely put it all on my star sign, or something-something in retrograde, but I just like liking things, to quote one of my favourite characters in classical culture... Abed from Community.

More obviously, blondeness. Lots of literal blondeness. Debating chopping it all off but even I'm willing to admit that that's primarily because both Laura Marling and Cat Power recently did so and I am highly suggestible when it comes to these two ridiculously awesome ladies.

*Addendum! Now a delightful shade of mousy-auburn, I surprisingly like it, and still jump when I see myself in the mirror, thinking someone broke into my house. A redheaded someone.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Formative books off the top of m'noggin':

Brave New World, Huxley (first thing I read after completing my learning-English education on Babysitters' Club books...)
Notes from the Underground, Dostoevsky
Franny and Zooey, Salinger
Solaris, Lem
Nausea, Sartre
Light in August, Faulkner

Also Chekov, Fitzgerald, Pushkin, Munro, Camus, Lawrence, Stephenson, Woolf, Sedaris (been audio-booking, because busy/lazy), etc, ad nauseum.

The play's the thing: not seeing nearly as much theatre as I used to and want to, but soon, sooooon!

I used to be much more heavily involved in music and radio, that slowed down with the silly decision to do an obscene amount of school, but been lucky to see some ace shows this year: Laura Marling, Andrew Bird (with Laura Marling... theme!), Refused, SNFU, Jeff Mangum, Cat Power (!!!), The Faint, and more that I need to look at my stubs to remember.
Some of these I've loved since I was a wee lass and some I've barely heard before going to the shows, all were amazing and set my music sense a-tingling.

On loop (still), is Cat Power's latest, craptons of Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, Ratatat, Fleet Foxes, Bowie's Low and anything Ziggy, and very, very recently got into Godspeed You Black Emperor, and I think I'm one copy of 'Metamorphosis' and a toque away from being permanently hipster-fied on Main Street or something. Donut care, so, so gooood.

VIFF was great this year, with More than Honey (bee documentary!) and Holy Motors (weird French people!) as standouts. My mild obsession has recently been trying to find Russian films with good English subs so I can watch 'em with friends and not have to go "waaat, they din't say dat, they din't!"

Not intensely into TV traditionally, but been looping episodes of Community recently. Can't stand Glee, non-ironically have the Glee episode of Community as still my favourite. Also revisiting Strangers with Candy (both Colbert and Amy Sedaris are my 100% matches, I choose to believe), Adventure TIme, Black Adder, the Wire, Deadwood. Want to start Treme, expand the amount of hours in a day, etc.

Food: bread, bread is good. Also vegetables. Bread on vegetables is greeeat. Only food I think I wouldn't be able to give up is honey. Because of reasons.
The six things I could never do without
Honey, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, natural un-dyed beeswax, books.

...I like bees. And reading about bees.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Bee... ns. Beens are good.

The meandering direction I'd like to take in life, including in large part travel.
On a typical Friday night I am
Herpaderping, most probably, either with a friend's cat in mah lap or a movie a-playing or with untz-untz-of-any-kind music, depending on mood, weather, the universe, kittens, puppies, etc.

When I can, I like to stuff my week with things, dinner with lovely friends, good-natured yelling/conversation with my folks, dancin' (motown nights are ma ferverate, ermergerd, etc), so a Wednesday can turn into a Friday, and a Friday becomes a Sunday, and Saturdays will always be Saturdays 'cause that's when Doctor Who is on.
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 21–40
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends, long-distance penpals
You should message me if
You have a clever (not really) pun about my brilliant (not at all) username. But srsly, srsly you guys, the name was set up because I was dipping my toes in this as a sort of joke, got roped into it because, woe is me, it's actually kind of fun.

Also, if you appreciate bees. Seriously, I really like bees.

It might be moot, but I like talking to people who don't have the biggest of expectations. I find the less we demand out of people, aside from respect and care obviously, the easier it is to get to know each other, and believe it or not, better things end up happening that way. ... /very special episode
