Formative books off the top of m'noggin':
Brave New World, Huxley (first thing I read after completing my
learning-English education on Babysitters' Club books...)
Notes from the Underground, Dostoevsky
Franny and Zooey, Salinger
Solaris, Lem
Nausea, Sartre
Light in August, Faulkner
Also Chekov, Fitzgerald, Pushkin, Munro, Camus, Lawrence,
Stephenson, Woolf, Sedaris (been audio-booking, because busy/lazy),
etc, ad nauseum.
The play's the thing: not seeing nearly as much theatre as I used
to and want to, but soon, sooooon!
I used to be much more heavily involved in music and radio, that
slowed down with the silly decision to do an obscene amount of
school, but been lucky to see some ace shows this year: Laura
Marling, Andrew Bird (with Laura Marling... theme!), Refused, SNFU,
Jeff Mangum, Cat Power (!!!), The Faint, and more that I need to
look at my stubs to remember.
Some of these I've loved since I was a wee lass and some I've
barely heard before going to the shows, all were amazing and set my
music sense a-tingling.
On loop (still), is Cat Power's latest, craptons of Sunset Rubdown,
Moonface, Ratatat, Fleet Foxes, Bowie's Low and anything Ziggy, and
very, very recently got into Godspeed You Black Emperor, and I
think I'm one copy of 'Metamorphosis' and a toque away from being
permanently hipster-fied on Main Street or something. Donut care,
so, so gooood.
VIFF was great this year, with More than Honey (bee documentary!)
and Holy Motors (weird French people!) as standouts. My mild
obsession has recently been trying to find Russian films with good
English subs so I can watch 'em with friends and not have to go
"waaat, they din't say dat, they din't!"
Not intensely into TV traditionally, but been looping episodes of
Community recently. Can't stand Glee, non-ironically have the Glee
episode of Community as still my favourite. Also revisiting
Strangers with Candy (both Colbert and Amy Sedaris are my 100%
matches, I choose to believe), Adventure TIme, Black Adder, the
Wire, Deadwood. Want to start Treme, expand the amount of hours in
a day, etc.
Food: bread, bread is good. Also vegetables. Bread on vegetables is
greeeat. Only food I think I wouldn't be able to give up is honey.
Because of reasons.
