Food: well, pretty much any cuisine and any ingredient goes, except
for unfortunately prawns (possibly allergic) and coffee ("what
the?" most people will respond, but fear not because I love the
aroma of fresh coffee and enjoy café culture). Wine I have a
particular affinity to.
Music: I go through genre phases - currently re-visiting jazz and
am quieting down on the 'ol bluegrass (tho’ I do confess to owning
a banjo that I really can't play). I'm particularly partial to
older country, roots, Bowie, ska/dub, alternative (love listening
to PBS most mornings) and jazz. Boy bands and hip-hop I find hard
A sample of my taste in artists: Johnny Cash; Imelda May; Holly
Cook; M Ward; Eliott Brood; Bela Fleck; Jonie Mitchell; Miles
Davis; Mingus; Art Blakey; Tom Waits; Nick Cave; Nick Drake; Belle
& Sebastian; Neil Young; Ralph Stanley; Seldom Scene;Triffids;
baroqe; Beethoven; Monsieur Camembert; Iggy; Buzzcocks; Dandy
Literature: I'm more into non-fiction (eg Future Eaters; The Man
Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat; science, food and plant magazines).
I do however enjoy a good novel - a couple of favourites would have
to be "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole and “Haroun
and the Sea of Stories” by Salman Rushdie.
Picture entertainment: not a big theatre or movie goer, but do drag
myself out occasionally. I love black humour and satire. Fargo is
an all time favourite. I watch a bit more TV - pretty much only
evenings and quite enjoy a documentary. I admit to becoming
absorbed into Game of Thrones and am currently working my way
through "Breaking Bad" series.
