I am curious, introspective, and unassuming.

My Self-Summary

My name is John. I am currently going to school for chemistry, although it has already changed a couple times from engineering to physics to philosophy and back to science. The problem is I'm too curious about this beautiful place we seemed to end up on. I love trying and learning new things, going on adventures, relaxing with friends, and being with nature.

Truly, that's what life, for me, is all about. Doing everything I can with my self-- the one body and consciousness I have been allotted for a painfully brief period of time. Furthermore, I believe we, as the only self-aware species known to exist, each have an individual responsibility to experiment in every way imaginable with our bodies, our consciousness, and our emotions. We are the ONLY living beings capable of retrospectively interpreting these experiences and learning from them.

What I’m doing with my life

Going to school, working part-time, tutoring. Thankfully, I have a found a nice community college that isn't sinking me into debt, but im running out of classes to take there.

On a day-by-day basis, I am always trying to find things that interest me and that I am passionate about. I go with the flow maybe a little too frequently but I take advantage of opportunities to try something new-- however sparse they may seem in this area.

I’m really good at

Listening, learning, cooking, remembering worthless information, wasting time, expressing myself with words (can't do anything artsy though), procrastination (i'm extremely good at that one--i'm doing it right now!), training dogs, negotiation, taking tests, working my ass off when absolutely necessary, teaching, daydreaming.

I'm also very good at any game which requires strategy. They're fun.

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes probably. I never really asked, but that's usually what they look at.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

BOOKS: Catcher in the Rye, A Brief History of Time, Oryx and Crake, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Fahrenheit 451, The Stranger, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, Siddhartha, The Brothers Karamazov

MOVIES: Fear and Loathing, The Big Lebowski, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Memento, Garden State, Across the Universe, Idiocracy, Into the Wild (much different from the book), Planet Earth series, The Elegant Universe miniseries

MUSIC: I'm going to have to condense this to a top 5 list, cause i could go indefinitely. I like most music, but I love classic rock. I also have a soft spot for 90s alternative. Rap and country in moderation, please.

Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
The Mars Volta
Santana
Michael Franti and Spearhead

FOOD: Something with meat and pasta and veggies sounds good.

The six things I could never do without

toothpaste, soap of some kind or another, a writing instrument and paper, any part of myself--i don't even want to imagine--including legs, hands, memory, eyes, etc., reliable means of starting a fire, fresh water

lol i got all survivorman on that one. but i truly can think of few things i would absolutely love to do more than sever all tethers of "modern society" and live off the land. As a matter of fact, in several eastern societies once one has raised their children, they will renounce all of their worldly possessions and wander to find meaning for their life, except typically they will accept hospitality from strangers along the way.

Not to say technology isn't nice and that I haven't grown accustomed to it, but it is so incredibly, sickeningly superficial and poisonous to our true animal nature and the rest of the planet...

"the only gain of civilization for mankind is the greater capacity for variety of sensations--and absolutely nothing more" --Dostoevsky

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I dunno if it's possible to list everything someone thinks about, even if you restrict the possibilities to those things you think about A LOT.

I think about whatever comes to my mind, and it is usually gone as fast as it came.

On a typical Friday night I am

Typically hanging out with a group of good friends, maybe going out, usually staying in.

This semester, though, I have class at 830 every sat. morning, usually followed by work, so friday nights for the past 4 months have been significantly more mundane.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm an open book, just ask.
