-- There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

kimchi turned out awesome. \o/
furry_asshat gave me the gift of cucumbers and we pickled them with brine too. The result might be "sour pickles," as opposed to the stuff with vinegar usually sold in stores. Then again, making pickles is supposed to be kind of difficult so the result might be a failure. Let me attach some dumb pictures here.

I checked the kimchi crock and it smells good! This might not be a failure. :D

I have a very large container of cabbage, radish, and carrot soaking in brine in the kitchen.
Maybe I'll be this guy when I grow old: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItDXpNyOmhA Of course, that guy is pretty awesome. He even speaks Russian, it seems.
It might be worth noting that cabbage fermentation in Germany was introduced by Tatar traders who got it from somewhere in China; it says so in one of the books he praises in the video. That's our history lesson for the day, I guess.
Anyway, cabbage! \o/

So, I got some lingonberry preserves from a store best known for modular furniture. I've just tried it. I thought I'd had it before and hey, I guess I have.

The name for the berry in Russian is pronounced like the title of the post, with the accent on the "nee" syllable.
music for the listening and such

I've been listening to stuff on thesixtyone a lot. It's a cool site for indie musicians to upload their stuff. As a listener, you can promote (or "heart," as in the transitive verb) and share songs that you like, tip the musicians, and even buy some of the music. Er, I haven't bought anything yet, though. The link above will take you to my profile. Click on Saved Songs for a list of everything I've saved for future listening. If you wanted to keep track of everything I "heart," you'd have to make an account on the site. :B
