I am warm, nervous, and often too sarcastic.
My Self-Summary
I've been in London, removed from The North for 5 years or so now.
I'm still excited by the big city -- the music scene, the museums,
the parks, the variety and the scale of it all -- but I'd happily
trade any of the uppity cocktail bars for a country pub with real
ale, friendly old folks, a dog and a quiz that'd make me look
stupid. Still, I've yet to go to Madame Tussauds. Or the South Bank
Ferris Wheel. Some day...
In a girl I look for a happiness that doesn't always show, a kind
smile, a gentle joke, playful mocking and the ability to bring the
same out of me. I'm not comfortable with everyone I meet but I find
a sort of contentment in being with the right people that I really
love.
Sorry, I can only find the energy to write about myself when I'm in
an overly sombre mood. I'm less dry and much less reflective
normally.
What I’m doing with my life
for(int i=0;i<1000;i++)
Response.Write("Ian is a nerd");
I’m really good at
...pressing the "skip this question" link. I'm getting up to about
a 50% success rate. There should be a set of buttons that appear on
the bottom of every question with options like "my answer isn't
listed", "this sounds like a complicated scenario and my answer
would depend on many issues and feelings not described" or "why are
there so many questions about maths?"*. Also, what would the world
be like without the spark and passion of a good argument.
* I answer all the maths ones and mark them "a little important".
I'd be genuinely interested to see the correlation between the
people who answer the maths ones and those who believe in fate.
Perhaps destiny will some day put me together with a statistician.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I'm standing in the way of someone they actually
wanted to see. Or that I'm slumped in the gutter. Urinating. In my
trousers. Whilst throwing up. On your boots.
I'm also tall.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
The best book I read recently was Kafka on the Shore by Haruki
Murakami. Aside from that I like in fiction John Irving, Richard
Russo, Louis de Bernieres. I also read a lot of pop-science. Oh,
and don't forget any reader's friendly uncle, Bill Bryson.
With movies I always go for the quirky indie-type-things. Y'know,
like Amelie, like everyone puts. Recent movies I've enjoyed include
500 days of Summer, Away We Go and, to prove I'm in touch with my
masculine side, District 9.
So I made a Spotify playlist instead of a list of bands. I wasn't
going to make it so melancholy but it's a lazy Sunday afternoon and
that's how I'm feeling right now...

If you like it, cool. If not, it doesn't really matter. We're not
teenagers any more and friendships aren't born only of music
scenes. Having said that, if you recognise more than half of this
list I think we'll probably have a lot to reminisce about...

I spend a lot of time thinking about
...how to be be more content.
On a typical Friday night I am
...invariably in the same pub, near work with workmates. I'm always
open to alternatives though.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I want to write something really embarrassing and shocking here.
I'm just not brazen enough though. This is probably reflected in
how often I initiate first contact.
You should message me if
- you've gotten this far
- you think we might get along together
- you could see yourself wanting to meet up
