My self-summary
I'm a really neat girl. and i work hard.
What I’m doing with my life
teaching science to the soon-to-be masses. some are great. some not so great. But i'm enjoying the challenge of loving those not so great ones.
I’m really good at
navigating the gray.
The first things people usually notice about me
i have more energy than most. i'm also super easy to talk to, and i will brag about it because it's something i'm proud of and work at.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't know why it says I'm less artsy. Life is art.

I love reading. Unless the internet sirens beckon, I'm probably going to be reading. i generally don't have favorite authors - but i do love a good kurt vonnegut short story, david sedaris, and capote is really worth reading more slowly for. "The good earth" stuck with me - I think about it from time to time - as did "things fall apart." I just finished the Lemon Tree, 500 days, the stranger, the diving bell and the butterfly, the hidden brain, the unbearable lightness of being. Next is blink, cloud atlas, blindspot, the fault in our stars, zoobiquity, the odds against tomorrow, blah blah. The first book that hooked me hard and changed my life forever was the giver.

i like wes anderson, miranda july, charlie kauffman, and christopher guest. i like foreign films a lot - the piano teacher was so wonderfully bizarre, downfall was amazing. obviously, like most poeple, i like comedies and other lighthearted fare. i have an audrey hepbourn movie for whatever shitty mood I'm in that needs remediating.

I don't have cable, but I have prime. If it rolled out of the bbc, there's a good chance I'll like it. i like downton, mad men, dr who, arrested, rehab addict.

music is tough to list, because I like a lot. i guess the only thing i really don't care for, generally, is commercial radio. i like a lot of stuff that comes out of sweden, or whatever kexp or kcrw play for me. I also like looped stuff for a change of pace, like Juana Molina or kishi bashi.

I'm from a moderately traveling family. we used to travel around the US all summer when i was a kid, so aside from alaska, hawaii, and some midwestern state (none of us can remember which one), i've been to them all. i've been to enough foreign countries to stop referring to the US as "america." I did a stint in Europe on my own back in college for 3 weeks, which honestly, was terrifying. but it changed my life. my brother volunteered for the peace corps in jordan and i visited him at his tiny little village for a month and ate his minutes-dead chicken and shat in his hole in the floor. he fell in love with the country, as well as an absurdly awesome jordanian lady, and got a job teaching modern middle eastern history at the kings academy in amman. i get there as often as i have a few bucks to spare. until then we skype.

so, i would prefer to meet someone who is content with living poor and not having neat stuff - other than good food - so we can spend it on traveling. if you have a problem with credit cards, you should not expect me to be ok with that.

i will try anything. i'm mostly a vegetarian- but I like fish. i know that's a pescatarian. but i'll eat meat if someone makes it for me because i consider social relationships to be more important than diet preference. I mostly lean toward vegetarianism as a way to curb my carbon footprint because it has a greater impact than transportation. I wish it were more for the animals, but they don't keep me up at night. climate change does sometimes, though.

I love to cook adventurously, with a cookbook. I think that sums me up just fine.
