Enjoy live theater (as opposed to dead theater), the symphony, music (but give the oldies a rest, please), live comedy, movies, salsa dancing, and enjoy ballet and the opera. I also enjoy occasionally camping out and fishing (no hunting though).
My taste in music is mostly symphonic and progressive rock -- most of which you have never heard of and if you have -- please e-mail me. The more common bands are Alan Parsons, ELP, Moody Blues and Yes. Newer interests include IQ, Martigan, Karmakanic, Knight area, Carptree, Kaipa - mostly European progressive and symphonic rock bands (they mix classical and rock - just love it!)
My job:
I am self-employed and have been for well over ten years. I have several web sites I operate, I sell online training, I travel to 36 cities every year teaching billing and coding seminars for eyecare. I've written two books on gardening and exercise (as in gardening to exercise and exercising to garden).
My religion:
Think of the bumper sticker: "God is too big for any one religion." I respect all religions and faiths. I read a lot about comparative religion, psychology and "conceptual ideas." Concepts such as Free-Will, Good and Evil and the Evolution of Morality fascinate me. So be forewarned.
My education:
I have a BA in Psychology and an MBA in Finance. I have been in sales most of my life and now I run my own business (sales/consulting/healthcare) consulting and selling products via the Internet (I can work from anywhere!)
Politics:
I would say pretty liberal on most issues. I even saw President Obama in Vegas (Oct 2010) and was about 20 feet from him so that was a first, to see a active President, in person. And BTW, the founding fathers, such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine, were deists, not Theists.
My friends know me as a relationship person. I don't need a lot of friends, just very few good ones. I never met a stranger and engage meeting people while traveling. Not one to divulge my opinions I enjoy engaging others and learning their "story" and sharing the trials and tribulations of my life. I don't have to get in the last word. I've spoken with people for an entire night and they may never know exactly how I stand on a position.
I enjoy a good laugh and can laugh at myself and hope you can do the same (not laugh at me -- at yourself!) In other words, we should not take ourselves too seriously -- life is difficult enough.
I was born in Brooklyn NY, went to HS in NJ, college in WV and have lived in Memphis since 1980. If that is not comic material, I don't know what is. So, yes, you will find that I mix both Northern Yankee and Southern humor.
While some may think of me as a Type-A personality, I have an MBA, I'm a first-degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-do, I play classical guitar (as well as other styles), and have new love in my life (2011) - a Korg Karma keyboard (it's a synthesizer on steroids). In 2012, Miss Korg is jealous of yet another love, a Casio Priva 220 (all 88 keys) and my new Kindle Fire! (she is *really* mad at me) I salsa dance, sculpt, wrote two books, I travel and operate four websites, I think I'm very flexible and forgiving. I have many faults (I don't decorate, I don't shop, sometimes I stay up until four am and I clean -- but only after I can't see the floor) and don't expect perfection. In fact flaws are what make us human and I've always said I want to find someone who will love me for what I am not than for what I am. It's easy to love someone for their successes, another story to love them in spite of themselves.
In college I was the guy all the pretty girls liked to talk to and complain about their boyfriends. I love comedy and have even tried stand up on Open Mike night in Memphis (it's brutal!). In general I would prefer music or live theater over a sporting event -- but I do enjoy the Riverkings. I enjoy camping and enjoy fishing (but not hunting). There are some great camping sites in the mid-south.
My children and my siblings are in the photos on POF, so you will know a lot about me before we even meet. I watch a LOT of movies and have even written several screenplays and a two-act play. You will have to get used to me yelling out "character arc" "Act II twist" or "character development" during a movie (I know, it's annoying...)
OK, basically I'm a big kid in an adult body. My house looks like a college dorm with four guitars, now two keyboards, four computers, my new Kindle and assorted other electronics. If that does not scare you away, then let's talk.
Jeff
First Date
Meet and Greet is typically in the afternoon for coffee unless you are out of town. First date might be dinner. Maybe a third date would be Theater Memphis, Playhouse on the Square, Circuit City, Rafferties on Thur night, or The WiseGuys at Cafe Eclectic.
