I am brilliant, adorable, and humble.

My Self-Summary

Oh boy, let's see. Although I did grow up in the suburbs, I commuted to school at Columbia (where I majored in film and almost minored in poetry) and finally managed to move here to the city about two years ago. I'm currently going through a divorce, but I honestly haven't felt this good in years; I'm thoroughly enjoying this life-reset of sorts.

I'm a freelance cinematographer, photographer, and tv studio technician. I'm not really a musician or a painter, but like to pretend I am. I love starting random projects that are slightly outside my comfort zone, but sometimes have a problem finishing them. I read and watch films voraciously. I'm a sci-fi and ren faire nerd who never really got into comics, video games, or anime for some reason, but I have been known to dabble in tabletop from time to time. I love to dance, but I'm pretty terrible. Sometimes I dress like James Joyce. I consider myself vegetarian, and cook a lot of tasty vegan dishes, but I still eat fish, dairy, and eggs, so most real vegetarians consider that cheating. I guess I'm technically an ovo-lacto-pescaterian ... or something?

I'm bi, but I've dated more women than men, so I'm a little more nervous and insecure around men than women. But I've almost only dated women who are also bi, so make of that what you will.

What I’m doing with my life

Reevaluating that at the moment, to a certain extent. While feature cinematographer is still out there as a goal, I'd just be happy to do something similar at this point, so the freelancing is taking me in that direction. I want to make art, but I'm still figuring out what I have to say. I'm sort of enjoying the sensation of sudden uncertainty and the adventure of it all.

I’m really good at

Procrastination, indecision, inappropriate humor, over-thinking, and self-deprecation. Although, I am a pretty good cook and bake a mean loaf of bread. I'm also a karaoke god and will kick your ass at Scrabble (consider yourself warned). Oh, and I'm a halfway decent harmonica player.

The first things people usually notice about me

Well now that the beard's gone, I guess it must be my goofy haircut.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Uh-oh, list time. Please bear with me, I make a lot of lists.

Authors: J.R.R. Tolkien, Albert Camus, Oscar Wilde, Allen Ginsberg, Steven Jesse Bernstein, Sherman Alexie, Chuck Palahniuk, Hunter S. Thompson, Kurt Vonnegut, Tom Robbins, Neil Gaiman, David Sedaris.

Movies: Annie Hall, Band of Outsiders, The Big Lebowski, Buffalo '66, Chasing Amy, A Clockwork Orange, The Conformist, Dead Man, The Empire Strikes Back, Fight Club, In the Mood for Love, The Cranes are Flying, Let the Right One In, Lost In Translation, Rushmore, The Shawshank Redemption, The Third Man, Young Frankenstein.

Music: The Beatles, David Bowie, Bauhaus, Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, The Clash, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Ani D, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Skip James, Robert Johnson, Joy Division, New Order, NIN, Nirvana, Pixies, Radiohead, Lou Reed, The Smiths, The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Muddy Waters, The White Stripes, Neil Young.

Food/drink: tortellacci, saag paneer, lox, enchiladas, strawberries, very dark chocolate, dark ales, single malt Scotch, etc.

The six things I could never do without

Music, some manner of camera, gaff tape, notebook & pen, the cta, and I'm starting to rely more and more on my iPhone, which is going to be really unfortunate come the inevitable robot uprising or zombie apocalypse.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Aspect ratios, translating emotion into lighting, how to better manage my time, how to avoid being an asshole.

On a typical Friday night I am

I prefer my Friday nights atypical. Lately, I find myself going out more, maybe because my new apartment is so desperately small.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I really miss my kitty. I have visitation rights, but it's just not the same.

You should message me if

You're brilliant and funny and think I might also be.

You are not a serial killer.
