My self-summary
Dear people of Portsmouth and the surrounding areas, I would like to make friends with you as I have just moved here and know very few people round these parts! So do not disregard the below, but please also write if you just fancy chatting over a pint or going to a gig or a show with a lovely friendly young lady.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to know that I am here primarily for dates. This means that I want to go out with you of an evening, eat food, drink drinks, chat the chat, have fun and get to know a little bit about what you're like in real life. Then we'll part ways for the evening, maybe with a friendly wave, maybe without a backward glance or maybe with a wildly passionate kiss and the promise of more in future... what could be better? It's so much more exciting doing it that way. And it doesn't matter what happens afterwards, really; we may end up never seeing each other again, or having more evenings out and liking each other more and more, being friends, or drinking partners, or possibly even having some other manner of fun. And any of these are cool because we've had an evening out talking to a real person and exchanging smiles and ideas, and it's unlikely we've not had even a bit of a connection, even if it's just a brief giggle about how ace Ulysses 31 was (my slight partiality to men with long hair and beards was even then in evidence - in fact, I wonder if that's where it came from...?!), and we haven't spent HOURS AND HOURS chatting online and investing in a person who doesn't really exist.... So yeah. Dating is where it's at. So: who's up for having coffee/drinks/dinner with me?

Wherefore *always* means the same thing. Look it up, guys.

Other little tidbits:

I am a good cook and a good friend.
I am very physically demonstrative - I HUG big time. This means I may occasionally make you uncomfortable with my arms, if you're not into that sort of thing (and don't say so!).
I particularly appreciate people who dance wildly to good music.
If these things interest you: I dye my hair, usually somewhere between dark-browny red and more reddy red. I have a pierced nose, and currently 6 piercings shared asymmetrically between my ears. I am not a skinny chick so if the curves put you off, probably best not to bother (btw this doesn't mean I don't like to keep active - I walk, swim and dance pretty regularly and love spending time outdoors).
I don't believe that 'too much information' exists.
If you want to buy me a present, I would very much like some neurotransmitter earrings. Go on, you know you want to! Do not, however, buy me serotonin as I have now bought those for myself :D

I am quick, open, and filthy of mind

My god, my profile is long.
What I’m doing with my life
I love my job as a clinical biochemist, I'm doing an OU diploma in statistics on the side, I sing (in a choir) (and also in karaoke!), I try to cook all my own food and I'm pretty good at it, I dance around my room whilst making cups of tea, I mess around on the internets, I listen to good music, read interesting books, engage in silliness, talk lots on occasion and aim to enjoy everything :) I want to learn a portable musical instrument - the piano sucks for that!
I’m really good at
Snuggles, sex, science, silliness, sibilance.
The first things people usually notice about me
Some people list their best feature here. My best feature is my brain, which I don't suppose people are likely to notice on a casual once over. My brain is large and powerful, and if you disrespect it I will fire lasers out of my eyes and my ears and cunningly placed holes in the back of my head, so I'll get you wherever you're standing. Ha!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books is hard. I like most books because I can read them and I enjoy the actual reading part of reading. Anyway, I own a lot of stuff by Russian writers which I generally really enjoy, have just read Solzhenitzyn's Cancer Ward which was great; Holes is a good one; I quite like those kind of semi-biographical historical novel types of book (cf The Agony and the Ecstasy, not crap ones); I like P.G. Wodehouse, I own a lot of Terry Pratchett, which is always good for a lighthearted read. The fact that I can quote bits verbatim is testament to the fact that these lighthearted reads happen a fair bit! I also like books about science and books about food, and books about the science of food totally rock :) I basically like anything that makes me think (about interesting stuff, as opposed to 'god this is a shit book, and it has spelling mistakes in it too!' (has anyone else noticed this is becoming more prevalent?)). I've just read Atomised and I didn't think it was funny like it said on the cover - actually, I thought it was really bloody depressing! Also, it wasn't as filthy as it was made out to be, although maybe that's more a reflection on my brain.
UPDATE: sadly, the majority of my reading-time is now devoted to reading enormous tomes concerned with clinical biochemistry. Which is not to say I don't enjoy it-I'd just rather have time for other stuff also! I also need to find a comprehensive-yet-not-too-complex statistics book. Anyone?
Update: I registered on an OU statistics course! Am I mad? Possibly!

Films, my favourites ever are Some like it hot and west side story. I also like Kevin Smith stuff, Coen brothers stuff, and quite a lot of other random bits and bobs. Oh yes, Miyazaki (well, doesn't everyone?!). Belleville Rendezvous rocked and I now want to learn how to play the bicycle wheel. Or the fridge. Genius. I watched a film called Koyaanisqatsi a while ago and cried practically the whole way through.

Music, I am a music junkie and I like too much music to tie down a favourite! I like loads of stuff. I like anything from stuff you can wave your hair about to to stuff you can sit and chill out to. I like pretty much any music if it is live - who wants to go to gigs with me?

I often wonder whether the sort of music that appeals to people has to do with frequency. I have a tendency towards liking stuff which is very bass-heavy, or maybe that should be bassline-driven, although of course there are many exceptions.

Food, yes. I like all food, pretty much, apart from grapefruit: the citrus fruit of doom.
The six things I could never do without
Physical contact, salt, something to brush my teeth with, language, somewhere safe to sleep and my friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
(Clinical) biochemistry, food, sex.

When I'm going to have a bath. When I'm going to catch up on sleep. When I'm going to do my piano practice. I am not even sure I can claim to play the piano any more as it's been so long since I've done so!

The strange way it is extremely easy to go around taking amazing, beautiful and complex things for granted. Such as your own body... which is a lot of the fascination of biochemistry.

The compatibility of hormones and logic.

Why people write things like 'you must be good looking' on here, and then don't elaborate. It's like saying 'you must have a good sense of humour'. Way too much of a subjective thing for others to respond properly to. I mean, some people think cracker jokes are funny. Dear god.

How the little brushes in pots of nail varnish don't reach to the bottom. Infuriating.

Lots of things relating to the interaction between biology and behaviour.

My behaviour towards other people, other people's behaviour towards me, and whether or not we'd like it if the behaviours were reversed.

Hugs. BIG hugs
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I love musicals and I love doing jigsaws. Maybe not so much private as slightly obscure knowledge re myself. You'll have to get to know me better for the interesting stuff :)
