My self-summary
Overeducated man with good manners and bad username seeks people to help fill time between here and death. In addition to books I also like chocolate, philosophy, making people laugh, ferris wheels, irony, freedom, cooking, liberal feminism and tequila.
What I’m doing with my life
General mischief...

I teach philosophy and politics, and when I'm not doing that I write about art and politics and ethics and people seem to like it. Sometimes they don't like it and they tell me so. That's a good thing.

This year I also started running a live stand-up philosophy night. So far that's been useful in helping me get drunk with interesting people.
I’m really good at
Listening
Writing
Joking
Being all charming and polite in public
Getting carried away
Spanish food
Various musical instruments
Throwing things in the air and catching them behind my back
The first things people usually notice about me
"Your hands never seem to stop moving."

"You have very pretty eyes."

"You make offhanded jokes about really important things as if they aren't important at all. I'm sure some people find it amusing but I find it really annoying."

"Yeah, I'd do you."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
In no particular order:

Nietzsche, Mill, tapas, The Cure, chocolate, The West Wing, coffee, Mr. Happy, pasta, Samuel Beckett, Bob Dylan, Alan Moore, Catch-22, Daft Punk, Prime Minister's Questions, olives, Stewart Lee, ice cream, Fleetwood Mac, Derrida, Elvis Presley, Betty Friedan, Franz Kafka, Lo-Fidelity Allstars, Hannah Arendt, Dostoevsky, The National, Jacques Ranciere, noodles, Blur, mangoes, Michel Houellebecq, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Daniel Kitson, Beethoven, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, digestive biscuits, Roland Barthes, Spacehog, Wittgenstein, Babybird, jamon de bellota, Erik Satie, Prince, Voltaire, Rihanna, Walter Benjamin, David Bowie, berries of all varieties, U2, Simon Critchley.

My favourite film is obviously Ghostbusters, because no better film can ever have been made. If this claim is a problem then I can happily argue for it for as long as is required.
The six things I could never do without
1. Other people
2. Something to write on
3. Something to write about
4. A warm place to sleep
5. Something to play music on
6. The news

But I couldn't have done this list without coffee
On a typical Friday night I am
Probably nestled in the corner of a pub in London or Brighton, talking/laughing/arguing about politics/eating ice-cream/doing crosswords/thinking about going to the kareoke place
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have no tattoos or piercings. I know, right? It's ludicrous.

Also, I'm not really that good at catching things behind my back. I've just learned how to style it out when I drop them.
