Politicians keep saying I'm the backbone of America.

Veteran? Yes. Small business Owner? Yes. Backbone of America? I'm not sure about that, but I like the idea of building a little business that contributes to my community and provides value to others. The part where hard work pays off with an exceptional life is a bonus.

I work hard to diversify my interests... From being an Army Veteran to a Male Ballet Dancer, a 4 Gallon Blood Donor and a gaming geek, to loving the Trinity Alps as well as the coral reefs below the Red Sea; it's been a great adventure so far.

I have a strong commitment to becoming even more of the man I am: trustworthy, caring, responsible, goal-oriented, considerate, and dedicated to friends as much as financial success. It's how I see myself and how I believe others see me. (Friends: That's true.)

But I've been so caught up in work that I haven't been putting in the time for building new relationships. That's not right and needs to change. Maybe you can help?

I own a growing property management company in Eureka and a great real estate investment business with projects covering Humboldt County. It's a set of solid and recession-resistant ventures; as future proof as anything can be.

It's also a conversation killer but there's a quote on my wall:

Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so that you can spend the rest of your life living like most people can't.

The plan is to build these businesses for 3-5 years, then have the freedom to engage in sexier projects and explore even more of life's adventures.

Fixing stuff, Learning new skills, playing darts, Quake 3 Arena, memorizing poems, basic first aid, Ultimate Frisbee, clapping loudly, holding my own in any sport, and making lacey cookies. Basically everything except wrapping Christmas presents, fixing cars, and knitting.
