My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
[Remember me from the journals? If so, I'll be in NYC during the SuperBowl weekend, let me know if you want to hangout :-]

I'm not Irish, if that's what you're looking for; and if you have to ask, even after 78 years, no, I haven't picked up the accent, either - for great shame, but I work/talk mostly with/to expats like me all day.

I'm blunt, sarcastic, practical and lazy. I'm also uninteresting, boring and shy.

The "Christianity and laughing about it" bit means I was raised catholic, but I'm an atheist now. Precambrian rabbits and all that.

The adjectives/sentence that used to show up near the profile picture: I am a stranger, in a strange land, and not upselling.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Not much, really: holding a full time job, for which I moved here in the first place. Pretending I can play the guitar (sometimes I even pretend I can sing along, specially if there's no one around), reading a book or just the random leaflets I get on the mail before putting them out of their misery. Pretending to know how to play basketball, about twice a week when I'm not injuring myself in the process.Watching a bit of TV (comedy, movies, sports, documentaries) and dinner out with friends are also on the menu. I'm not much of a pub buff, specially if it's crowded/noisy. Poker is generally regarded as a weekly social event (or that's just my way of justifying the losses). Chess is also great fun, specially experimenting with weird openings [against weak/average opponents, or distracted ones :-]
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Burning bridges, day dreaming and cuddling (if I get the chance, it's been a while). At least, I believe such (that I'm really good at cuddling, the others I know for sure).
Correction: apparently I'm not as good at burning bridges as I thought I was. Not sure if it's a bad or a good thing. So far it's a good thing. Not sure for how long. It's also a bit sad, but that's probably me.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I haven't a clue. This double entendre doesn't quite work in my favor...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

"The Cuckoo's Egg", "The Code Book", "Fermat's Last Theorem", "The God Delusion", ...

"Office Space", "Clerks", "Dogma", "Good Will Hunting", "Black Cat, White Cat", "Snatch", ...

"South Park", sitcoms, documentaries. And "Shameless", both the UK and the US versions!

Led Zeppelin, Jimmi Hendrix, Jethro Tull and similar. Also gypsy jazz/swing/blues/country guitar music (Django, Chet Atkins, Joscho Stephan, Tommy Emmanuel, Rosenberg Trio, Nickel Creek, Paco de Lucia, others)... White Stripes, Pixies, ... Many other bands/styles, from heavy-metal to classical music. Depending on the mood and the task at hand.

A nice steak, seafood, sushi, pizza. I'm omnivorous, and really should watch my diet more.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My close (albeit not geographically, these days) family. I guess that's just one thing, but it's a big one.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Puzzles (on a very very very generic sense of the word) and women (also in general.) The fact that women are sometimes/mostly(?) puzzling [to me] shouldn't have escaped you.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
At home. Supreme irony: at home, editing my OKCupid profile. Noticing as one of the profile pictures I considered recent is already 2 years old.As in many other nights, provoking exclamations of "Ewwww!" when showing up on your visitors list.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Unless you've read some of my earlier profile edits, sorry, I'm keeping all the juicy stuff for myself.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.

These days, I was just here for the journals, hence the change from "long-term dating" to "new friends", above.

You can always ask me anything, although it's uncertain I'll be willing to reply (on personal matters) or provide useful responses (on everything else). No harm in some idle chat up if you're bored.
