What I’m doing with my life

I just built a house for myself, and now there's somebody who wants me to do that for them, so besides all the other stuff, I'm building a house, probably for a while.

When I'm not doing that, I'm perhaps doing something artistic, regarding photography, sound, or maybe fractal geometry.

"home builder" is just another one of my many little incarnations. I have, in the past, been "chip developer," "Fractal Artist," "Photographer," "Editor," "Horticulturalist," "Chef," and I guess a few other things.

I go where opportunity and interest takes me.

I’m really good at

... Jack of all trades, master of none, though oft times better than master of one! ...

The first things people usually notice about me

I was at a party the other night, and after talking for half an hour with somebody, he observed that, "I don't know exactly what I'm thinking here, but you are full of information."

"Is that a good thing?" I asked?

"Yeah, you're funny too."

Okaaay <__< heh.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I'm a pushover for anything that has a good paradox, or time travel, or existential exploration. Science Fiction. mmm.

I've found that for the most part, a movie is just like a book, except without the sound, by comparison.

My favorite books are those by Greg Egan, Greg Bear, Neal Stephenson, Eric Nylund, Verner Vinge, Linda Nagata, Nancy Kress, sometimes even Corey Doctorow. Although I really enjoy Sci-Fi a lot, I also really like some of the more high end literature out there....

I wasn't impressed with Ayn Rand's conclusions, but "Atlas Shrugged" was at least entertaining, for example.

I'm often in the middle of reading at least one or two books at any time, and have really enjoyed many recorded books, especially while driving, that I wouldn't have read on paper such as all the classics.... Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Pynchon. Oh and about Thomas Pynchon... I tried to read _gravity's rainbow_, but boy that thing really has a lot of inside jokes and references that would only really work if you were living right during wwII in england. otherwise its a tedious slog, reading that, accompanied by the companion book. When I read Pynchon's "vineland," on the other hand, I had a great time because even though it probably had just as many subtle inside jokes as the former, I at least personally got all the jokes because they referred to a society I live in.... but i digress or go off on a tangent, or something. now where was I? oh yeah... i was being snobby about authors i heard of... well there are a bunch more so there.

I love groundhog day for so many reasons, and its predecessor, "12:01 PM" I love the original two terminator movies, back to the future, ghostbusters, brainstorm, matrix, of course, in spite of the fact that it was just a dumbed down version of so many novels I'd read in the past that covered all that material and took it so much further as well... Hm... I'm going on and on.... oh well I guess I have a lot of books and movies I like. One thing I've noticed is that I'm far better at telling you if I have liked a movie that you mention, than I am at actually rattling off a list... but here are some other movies that I have liked... 2001, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, 8 1/2, Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich, Blade Runner, The Godfather, of course, The Shining still has most of its luster for me, Close Encounters of the third kind, cocoon was fun, Brazil is a classic, hm now that i'm starting to think about it so many are coming to mind.. how's about all the mel brooks comedies? some of the bond films? the first starwars, titanic, good will hunting.. I think of those at the same time beccause they pretty much came out at the same time and the latter was a bit of an underdog ....

as for music... I love depeche mode. that's the band that helped me whenever I had a broken heart, and also whenever I was doing workouts... Now i'm happy to listen to most trance, electronic, and house music, as well as a lot of classical... I like music that somehow is founded in math... and has a bunch of stuff going on that you can't really notice the first time around. I like Beethoven and Debussy just because a housemate used to play them incessantly on her piano on sunday mornings when I'd lay in bed and let the rising sun's rays hit my face, all warm and snuggly under the covers.

I love food. Does this really come as a surprise? I have learned to cook in many nationalities, and am always interested in exploring new recipes and ideas. I've been told enough times that "this is the best meal that I've ever had" (I love when that happens) to be pretty sure that I know what I'm doing. I cook from the Jeff Smith/Alton Brown school of cooking... which is I approach it from the same angle as the foodhacking dot org guys do... with a hacker's perspective. I love mixing things up, as well as keeping them simple.... or both.

Most recently I finally discovered Di Fara pizza... I highly recommend...

The six things I could never do without

backup copies of myself. oh wait. we don't have those yet. oh my how are we even doing this life thing without backups?? omg.

homeostasis is nice.

I can't do without a lover to explore the universe with me, even though that is exactly what I've been doing. I really can't though. we do have instincts you know.

I could probably do without the internet, but i wouldn't want to. Half of my brain is and many of my friends are here.

I can't do without my family, even though I do know, that one day, I'll have to learn to..

I don't know what that other thing is, but i hope i don't lose it.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

existence...

ideas...

sometimes things and people...

On a typical Friday night I am

Out and about with friends, or at home with friends... sometimes, I'm just by myself doing my own thing.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm shy. You'll probably find out more if you talk to me though.

You should message me if

You'd like.
