My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm able to have fun doing most anything. That should by no means
be taken to imply that I'm good at doing most things. I have
nothing but respect for you running, skiing, sporty types. I try to
become a runner at least a few times a year and it's yet to take.
I'm lucky I've never done permanent damage in my attempts at
skiing. And I'm completely lacking the gene that 'gets' competitive
sports (although, growing up in KY, I totally 'get' basketball. I
don't play it well, but I get it).
That said, I love hiking and miss the mountains. In hiking I'm a
joy's-in-the-journey kinda girl, not a must-summit type. Again,
nothing but props for those of you who do reach the top. I'm just
more about pausing to notice a brightly colored fungus.
Beyond this, I went to grad school for a PhD in American Studies
and came out with an MFA in Intermedia & Video Art. I liked to
create spaces that knew you were there and responded in kind. My
goal was to create an environment that you, gentle participant,
encountered in your daily life and was enough of a break with the
expected course of things that it was an impetus for reflection on
self/perception/stuff....I'm relatively certain sure I never quite
achieved that goal, though there were some interesting experiments
along the way.
I now work in midtown for a management consulting firm where I
spend at least a chunk of most mornings worrying that I've violated
'business casual' yet again.
Let's see... more about me...
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Work-wise I'm an interaction designer. Sort of. My role is
evolving. I've found a job that allows me to continue to learn
which is a huge relief - once upon a time I feared I'd never be fit
for life outside an academic setting.

Conflict resolution. Building bridges. Having conversations. Making
friends. My job. Loving the people I care about. Identifying
kindred spirits. Enjoying moments. Learning new things.
Appreciating things I don't understand. Coming at things from a
different direction. Other stuff.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I'm not very good at favorites. I'm going on vacation in a week to
an island off the coast of Maine with no electricity and nothing to
do but hike, kayak and read. The books I'm bringing with me are
"Another Bullshit Night in Suck City" by Nick Flynn, Cormac
McCarthy's "The Road," a collection of short stories by Amy Hempel,
and Joyelle McSweeney's newest book. On both the movie and tv front
I'll say that I have both very good and very bad taste and leave it
at that. I also think that my television set will exit my life at
some point in the coming year. Music-wise I of course have
preferences, but I'm always up for something new. I like to listen.
I'm also a vegetarian, but not didactic about it.

Wondering how I just earned myself the 'less desirous of sex'
personality award... The only thing I can think of is that I did
answer a question saying that I don't think women have an
obligation to shave their legs... I stand by that answer: Shaving
legs is a choice, not an obligation.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Either vegging out and staying in because it's been a l-o-n-g week
at work, cooking dinner and going for a walk with a few friends,
going out for dinner and music in a venue that seats (often much)
less than 100... I'm not sure there is a typical. I'm tempted to
submit a pie chart breakdown (did I mention that I work for a
management consulting firm?), but I don't think I can insert images
here....
