Your Notes

Edit your notes

I am piquant, mountainy, and somewhat understated.

My Self-Summary

Tall, lanky, goofily handsome East Coaster seeking gal for Sunday morning crossword puzzles, urban scavenger hunts, culinary shenanigans, beer-fueled debates about the practice of irony, road trips to Oregon (or at least Oakland) and other good stuff.

What I’m doing with my life

I got my MFA in visual art a few years ago. Since then, it's been a blur of teaching college art classes, exhibiting my own work, freelancing as an illustrator and workin' for the man as an art installer. I'm a guitarist in a pretty good dust-bowl folk trio, and just started playing Ultimate Frisbee again after a long hiatus.

I’m really good at

Drawing things. Fixing things. Remembering song lyrics. Building climbing structures for cats. Grasping the big concepts, if not always the details.

The first things people usually notice about me

I loosen up very pleasantly after a drink or two.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Once Upon a Time in the West, Robert Graves, pho, Ry Cooder, the Lady Eve, John Le Carre, fresh flan, Guided by Voices, Cane Toads: an Unnatural History, Harper's magazine, Chet Aitkins, Metafilter.com, the Pogues, Valerie's Week of Wonders, psychedelic kitsch of all descriptions, Manny Farber, waffles, Robyn Hitchcock, Ronin, Philip K. Dick, Roy Orbison, Joan of Arc, tacos from Senior Fish of Eagle Rock, the Kinks, the Wire, Gillian Welch, prosciutto with melon, Raymond Chandler, Leonard Cohen, sushi, Mad Men, Dave Hickey, shoegazer rock.

The six things I could never do without

Overcast weather.
Cheese-laden food.
Ideas that make my head spin around.
Amplified rock music.
Meaningful peer relationships.
Rainy afternoon sex with someone I'm crazy about.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Rainy afternoo - *ahem*, that is... social justice-y stuff, internet ephemera, art projects, karaoke culture.

On a typical Friday night I am

• shooting darts with a buddy or two at the pub, or
• toiling in my studio with a beer in my hand and Motorhead thundering from the stereo, or
• curled up with some arthouse thriller from Netflix.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

At age 19, I developed a crush on Annette Funicello after finding a warped copy of "Hawaiiannette: Annette Funicello Sings Songs of Hawaii" in a cabin in Maine.

I got kicked out of a grad student mixer for climbing a tree.

I once accidentally stabbed a chef in the arm while working the grill at a seafood restaurant.

You should message me if

... Maybe you're a world-traveling polyglot with an accordion-extended passport. Or maybe you play it closer to home, tending your garden and indulging your passion for pinhole photography in blissful solitude.

Maybe you're a high-achieving alpha female with impressive degrees and ambitions, or maybe you're an art-school refugee with heart of gold and a collection of college-rock mix tapes moldering in the trunk of your Volkswagon.

Whoever you are, you're pretty, headstrong, kind, and willing to postpone judgment on my profile until I've done a little more copy-editing.
