My Self-Summary
I graduated from Central Michigan University with a BA in French Language Literature and Culture and European Studies. I speak French fluently, though I haven't practiced in a while. I have a love of all things French and if I could live anywhere I would live in Paris. I enjoy French movies, though often times they are not very good. I like French food, especially dessert. I can't wait to go back to France.
After working in technical support in French for an automotive company I decided to go back to school. I got my law degree about two years ago from the University of Toledo and passed the bar. I worked in bankruptcy for a while, but it's not very interesting and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do instead.
These things are so difficult to write and I never know what to say, so I'll just add some random information about me.
* I'm the kind of person who reads historical markers and thinks about the amazing things that happened under our footsteps years ago.
* Though quite difficult in the city, I love to look at the stars. I can identify several constellations and planets and I love to just lay on the grass and look up at a clear sky full of stars.
* As I said, I speak French and I love all things francophone.
* I love to travel, but I rarely have the time or money these days. I've been to about 35 states and a handful of European countries. There is nothing more invigorating than a road trip where we get to see this amazing, beautiful country.
* I love to write and I write all the time. Nothing profound or published, but maybe someday.
* I can geek-out if necessary though I haven't in a long time. I used to read X-Men comics avidly, play RPG video games, watch cartoons and Star Trek: The Next Generation. It seems that I've moved away from it a bit, but I still can hold up a conversation or go to a comic-con or the Ren Faire and have a good time.
* I like to read. I read a variety of books, but my favorites are epic fantasy. There's no better way to get my attention than with a magic sword, wizard and battle between good and evil.
* I like Modern Art, especially Pop Art, like Roy Lichtenstein. My favorite architectural movements are Art Deco and Googie.
* My favorite flavor is "Red" candy, pop, slurpee, etc. I like to eat a variety of ethnic foods such as thai, indian, sushi, lebanese, italian, mexican, etc. I'm willing to try anything once. But I will not eat insects. Gross.
* I love to go to antique stores and flea markets. I don't buy much but I like to look.
* I listen to NPR often and that's where I get most of my news for the day.
* I prefer red wine. I like wheat beers or stouts. I drink coffee black and usually with a straw. I love Cherry Coke. Chocolate is required often.
* I am not the kind of person that arranges his schedule around television programs. I don't mind if others do, but I'm too busy. I don't have cable and don't watch too much TV.
* I have fallen in love with the Detroit area and I really don't want to leave. I try to support Detroit, local products and people as much as possible.
* I never watched Horror movies until this year. I've come to enjoy a lot of scary movies, and they're not as scary as I thought they would be.
What I’m doing with my life
When I'm not working, I spend a lot of time with my friends. We stay at home and talk or watch a movie, or go out and get drinks, or go for a walk. I have amazing friends who always keep me busy.
I spend a lot of time writing and thinking. I would ideally love to be a published novelist one day. I'm not rushing it though. I'm waiting for the perfect story. Until then I just practice writing as often as possible.

The six things I could never do without
1. A Pen - I always have a pen with me where ever I go, and most likely two. It's important for writing on comment cards if you have a bad waiter, giving out a phone number or writing funny things on the insides of matchbooks.
2. My Phone - I have an iPhone and I will admit that I'm on it way too much. I really try to be courteous though. I never answer the phone or text during meals. I also never use it while I'm having a conversation with someone else. If I don't answer my phone, it's not personal. I just think we have voicemail for a reason and I'm not going to be rude to the person I'm talking to in person.
3. My Car - Ok, so I have a 2001 Saturn and you might think this is strange, but I spend a lot of time in my car. I use it to go all kinds of places and see all kinds of people. Sometimes it's necessary to just drive around with the windows down, the radio on and no destination in mind.
4. My Computer - I use my computer a lot. I have an old Apple iBook. I use it to write email, check Facebook 50 times a day, watch old shows on Hulu, organize my music, and write stories and blogs and tweets and more.
5. My Friends - Ok, they're not "things" but they are very important to me. I have had the same best friend since 5th grade. My other best friend since 10th grade. All of my friends come from different groups and we're all interconnected in some way. I've been told that it's very strange to have such a large, close group of friends and I believe it. We all have varied interests and backgrounds and ideas, but we always have fun and we're always there for each other. They're my extended family.
6. My Family - Ok, not "things" either but we're pretty close. I am "out" to them and they are ok with the gays. My parents are married and still live in the same house for 20 years. My sister and I are very different but still close. She lives in Nashville. I don't have a large or close extended family. My grandparents have all been dead for 25 years. Consequently, my parents are not close to their brothers and sisters and neither am I. I will confess they are a wee bit crazy. But my immediate family is great.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
1. I'm at Necto, in the Red Room, holding a martini glass and dancing to hits from the 80s and from Europe.
2. With my friends watching a movie which ranges from horror movies to romantic comedies, from indie art films to foreign films with subtitles.
3. Talking with my friends about any number of topics affecting our lives, such as politics, economics, religion, psychology, relationships, gossiping. Then we pull out the Tarot cards or Ouija board and try to predict our futures. Finally, we play a board game and drink wine or beer or some mixed drink out of an antique punch bowl.
4. Alone, at home or in a coffee shop, reading a good book and listening to my iPod.
