My self-summary
i hate when people are negative on these things! those people are so dumb!
that said, i have a tendency to be contrarian. especially with people who think they're always right. maybe i just like arguing.
i have an irrational fear of poverty, chronic disease and mental illness. possibly a hazard of my profession.
stuff i do in my spare time: paint, read, run/lift weighs, make collages out of porno mags, explore different neighborhoods, look at stuff on the internet. cool stuff.
What I’m doing with my life
i'm a social worker working with medically frail homeless adults at a recuperative care shelter. most people's reaction when i tell them this is something along the lines of, "that must be really hard" while they look at me like i might fall apart at any second. the truth is i enjoy what i do and i somehow maintain a healthy detachment from the work. it's always interesting meeting our most marginalized people and hearing their stories. also, it allows for a lot of creative problem-solving.

additionally, i'm collecting my hours for clinical licensure and expect to take my exams in a few months which is crazy. <---Ha!
I’m really good at
making smoothies, making up nicknames for people, neologisms, inventing lost billie idol records, making french toast, planning field trips, breaking dishes
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: last book i read was "atmospheric disturbances" by rivka galchen which was pretty funny and whimsical. also recently read gone girl by gillian flynn which was great. highly recommended. right now i'm reading a lot of george saunders. i read a lot of history.
movies: last movie i saw was frances ha which was a nice movie or as dana stevens put it "greta gerwin is fun to watch do stuff." the greatest work of art in the last 50 years is a movie called airplane! unfortunately, that's not an original mark witticism. i'd be super impressed if you knew who originally said that.
tv: regular show! i'm loving broad city and i think about true detective all week
music: guilty pleasures (also file under most embarrassing thing i'm willing to tell the whole internet): katy perry, cut copy
foods: i eat a lot of everything. and i enjoy cooking. oh, and i refuse to stand in line for food. have you been to san francisco's hottest new line?!
The six things I could never do without
1) my trusty bicycle: that's how i go places
2) my job: gives me structure (i'd go nuts without my work routine), gives me money (i need that to buy food and stuff); and finally it gives me purpose (employs many of my talents and i get to do good)
3) exercise: i'm an insomniac without it
4) art: i need to consume and produce it
5) my family: i kinda owe them a lot
6) my friends: at least a couple times a week i get to tell people "everyone needs support" and your tax dollars pay for that
I spend a lot of time thinking about
depends on the situation. like if i'm at a bank i think about how i might rob it. then i think, "what am i doing at a bank?"
On a typical Friday night I am
going to bed early. on a typical sunday night i go out for karaoke with friends. on a typical saturday i'm roller staking at that rink in redwood city that seems like its days are numbered.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
i'm kind of a dumb blond sometimes. for example, it wasn't that long ago that i discovered that kokomo is not a real place. also, narwhals are not a mythical creature. also (and this is just a random fact that i can't find a better place for) giant squids are real and no one has ever caught one. crazy world!
