My self-summary
Returned early this year to 'merica after 4 years in Berlin. I am fairly obsessed with media and humans and what the two have to do with one another. Sometimes I make it or talk about it or make sure it's in focus or just consume and enjoy it. I also like adventures and live for things I'm not expecting.

I get a lot of satisfaction out of making something that wasn't there before. Sometimes it's an ikea bookshelf or a pumpkin pie, sometimes it's a jankey camera rig with too much velcro. If it's a film or a photograph or a short story, bully for me, but seriously, just gimme some wooden dowels and particle board and I'll have myself a time.
What I’m doing with my life
I've had a lot of really kind of awesome jobs, but that conversation can last a good 2-3 dates. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I do freelance in film and art, though, and love a good healthy mix of creative work, tech/physical problem solving, research, and flexing my bidness skills. Bonus points if they're all employed in the same project.

I write a lot of sketches about my adventures and hope to be the voice of my generation once Lena Dunham gets tired*. My version will be a little bit more about similarly educated, privileged young womens' humbling responsibility to each other and the world around them and less about girls taking baths together. What is that about? Guys, we don't really do that.

Alternatively, I may have a future in snarky rom-coms. Jury's out.

*not really.
I’m really good at
Having real conversations with a lot of different kinds of people, logging miles, general rough-and-tumbleness, fashioning things out of bubble gum and duct tape, open-mindedness (sometimes to a fault), adapting, taking pictures of windows?
The first things people usually notice about me
Sometimes in the middle of really intense conversations, when I'm throwing down some serious existential genius, I will be interrupted to be informed that my eyes are very blue.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
non-fiction cultural history and Bildungsromane -

If you read TEENAGE by Jon Savage and WORKING by Studs Turkel and get excited about either one, we should definitely be friends. I need to read more fiction. Admittedly, most of my reading time goes towards killing the New Yorker every week. Bam. I also listen to a lot of nerdy NPRish podcasts.

As for movies, I am omniverous and ravenous and value breadth over depth I think. Coming of age movies, strongly developed female led dramedies, I like Catherine Breillat, the Dardenne brothers, Michael Hanecke, Noah Baumbach, Todd Solondz, Harmony Korine, Louie CK, and other weirdos. In terms of pretty pictures, anything shot by Harry Savides, Bob Elswitt, or Roger Deakins*.

Also Blue Valentine, Wendy & Lucy, Winter's Bone, the Tin Drum and a handful of newer tiny German movies you'll have to ask me about in person. I also like shiny hollywood products for what they are**, and clever rom-coms with some kind of to g&e in cheek social commentary***, but when things get into broey/horrible female text territory I get sad for the world.

I recently saw some movie with Anna Farris trying to find love before she had to sleep with more than 20 people or something while in a creepy motel in Oklahoma and it probably best articulates what makes me very ornery. Down with that shit. I try to watch everything, though. This is what led me to watch Hunger Games, for inatance, which was, srsly, one of the best feminist texts I've seen on the screen. Nice one, H-wood.

TV - Girls, Louie, & Mad Men are very dear to my heart (dark, dramedy gold). Other than that I try to keep up with what's new and buzzy in terms of single cam shows and think much of it is pretty good. I am very sad 30 Rock is over. Let's not talk about it. I have never seen Game of Thrones. No spoilers.

I don't like unscripted shows much, with the exception of the couple of episodes I saw of Honey Boo Boo Child, because that family is the happiest and should be an inspiration to us all.

As for tunes, in no particular order or permanence, I'll go with Florence and the Machine, Fiona Apple, The Dø, Grizzly Bear, Mountain Goats, The XX, Velvet Underground, Nina Simone, and everyone on the SHAOLIN SOUL album. I don't know enough about jazz, but I love listening to it live, and I am actually trained in jazz singing. A little. Enough to impress you. If you already kind of like me. I have a smoldering dream of being a lounge singer someday. Can totally be when I'm 75 and only on cruise ships. NBD.

My little brother made me 3 really great mix CDs for my recent solitary cross-country drive filled with a lot of Fleet Foxes and a little Biggie. My little brother is awesome and I will listen to those mix CDs until the robots won't play CDs anymore.

The six things I could never do without
I'm pretty sure I could do without most things. I really like the Internet though. And sensory perception. So let's go with that. The five senses and the Internet.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to start a media revolution, make people laugh and think, and be a role model for little girls someday. Also regretting not buying cookies.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hopefully doing something new or engaged in a lengthy meandering conversation with someone about 2% smarter than me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a pretty serious intellectual fascination with Peter Pan. NOT a glorification mind you, but the concept of resistance to self actualization as a sort of death, and how it manifests itself in pretty much every creative person and at every dance party.
I’m looking for
  • Guys and girls who like bi girls
  • Ages 24–36
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You are adventurous, but not ridiculous.

Bonus points if you have a job, like long winded conversations about morality, and can cook more than grilled cheese.
