Like many on here, there may be too many to list, but I'll give it
a yeoman's effort to avoid being overly vague.
Grew up on midwestern classic rock, spent my formative years in the
peak of west coast hip hop and seattle/alternative music. Got bored
with rock, started listening to jazz, and hip hop before a detour
to Nebraska after college led to a love of classic country and
Americana. I briefly spent time rummaging through blogs and
websites to find the bands on the precipice of the indie rock
scene, before finding my way to becoming immersed again with jazz,
soul, funk and 70s African music. That's kind of my current scene
right now, however, if it has any kind of groove, I'll gravitate
towards it.
I also really love Robyn and the boom bap.
I don't really watch a lot of movies, besides documentaries. I
watch a lot more TV on Netflix. Which leads me too...
I love Doctor Who. I was one of those kids that would find it on
PBS, and would tape it during the early SciFi days when they would
show Doctor Who/Dark Shadows back to back at noon every day. I was
thrilled to watch the "comeback", and currently loving the
Smith/Moffatt era. Other than the Doctor, I love a lot of BBC
programming, anything Sorkin, and anything Whedon.
I do love watching sports, particularly pro basketball. My life
doesn't revolve around it, and it will rarely affect my mood. I am
pretty cerebral about it, not the cookie cutter "Chic-AHHH-go"
meatball stereotype.
I read a lot of cookbooks. I lean towards books revolving around
technique rather than recipes. Julia of course, also I really like
Michael Ruhlman's books, and love Sandor Katz's latest book on
Ferrmentation. If I don't have a cook book in hand, odds are I am
reading other non fiction and history books. I HAVE read all the A
Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) books.
When it comes to actually eating food, I'm very adventurous. Any
ethnicity is on the table, any part of an animal is on the table,
and any vegetable is on the table, minus acorn squash and eggplant.
I am willing to challenge my current thoughts on the two
vegetables. Yes, I do eat meat, though my diet is mostly vegetable
based.
