I am compassionate, poetic, and amused.

My Self-Summary

I get caught up in words like "melancholy" and "catalpa" and "duckling" and distracted by words like "effusive" and "apoepsis" and "god".

I've gotten blandly acclimated to writing myself into boxes. The internet has been around so long that sometimes I forget how to introduce myself to a stranger outside of text. It's my shyness, I say to myself, but it's really a lack of courage.

How brave all of us must be to write these descriptions of ourselves. How brave all of us are who respond to these descriptions. Though, something about this forum feels cowardly to me. I think it must be the lack of eye contact.

I crave something, something unnamed, unheard of by my ears, and it would be nice to be sated.

It would be nice to meet another Romantic.

What I’m doing with my life

Living! Writing. Reading. Thinking. Laughing. Enjoying people for whom they are.

Finding beauty in the most unlikely places. Feeling strongly. Being honest.

(And apparently writing gerands.)

I’m really good at

I'm quite a good listener. I'm good at making people feel comfortable in their own skins.

The first things people usually notice about me

Why don't you tell me: you have the better view.

Bronte's Wuthering Heights, Ackerman's A Natural History of the Senses, Winterson's Art & Lies, M. Robinson's Gilead, Garcia Marquez's Love in the Time of Cholera, Water's Affinity, Nabakov's Invitation to a Beheading, etc...

Poetry: Dickinson, Rilke, Tate, W.C.Williams, Piercy, Jordan, Rich, Coleridge, Sappho, Catullus, etc...

Movies: The Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio, Fingersmith, The Hours, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Enchanted Cottage, Boys on the Side, Pan's Labryinth, Stranger Than Fiction, Olivier's Wuthering Heights, Roman Holiday, The Sound of Music, Little Children, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Sister Act, A League of Their Own, Show Me Love, etc...

Music: I'm eclectic...Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Peter Mulvey, Dar Williams, Edie Carey, Kris Delmhorst, The Rolling Stones, Patsy Cline, The Counting Crows, Kaia, Sonic Youth, Bach-especially on cello, Joan Baez, Carole King, Scissor Sisters, Bon Jovi, The Murmurs, The Softies, Heavenly, Philip Glass, etc...

Food: Thai, Indian, Ethiopian, sushi...

The six things I could never do without

1.) Books. 2.) Writing utensils. 3.) My friends. 4.) Joy. 5.) Solitude. 6.) Nature.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What is the matter with people? Why are we all closed off from one another? Where is everyone's sense of adventure? Can't anyone else see that this is it? The time is now?!

I also think about politics, history, literature, where I'm going to walk, how long I'll make it in Boston (the city of cold, closed-off people)...and how much I miss expanses of green.

On a typical Friday night I am

I don't have a typical Friday night. Some Fridays, I go out with friends, and on others, I stay home to enjoy a solitary evening.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm a Romantic (and the capital "r" is important).

You should message me if

You can hold a conversation that consists of content beyond popular culture.

You're intriged by me.

You love romance, even--or especially--if it's only platonic.

You trust yourself.
