My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I spend most of my time in Joshua tree - I have a pretty great place there! I also love music - everything from Bluegrass to downtempo electronic, smart hip-hop, and indie rock -and I live for it. After that, I'd say I'm outgoing, smart, and adventurous. I love to travel and have been to 20 countries - backpacking through most of them. I'd prefer to stay in a hostel, any day, over a swanky hotel! I love to learn, laugh, and try new things.

I love seeing live bands, movies, art, and the outdoors. I'm a biologist, so I love nature - Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places in the world! I got scuba certified in Australia a couple years ago and have tried to go as many times as possible since then.

I love a good whiskey (Rye > Bourbon > Scotch), a good beer (though I'll drink a PBR or even a -gasp - Miller Lite on a hot day), and most food (trying to work my way through Jonathan Gold's 101).

Love road trips and camping!!

Lastly, I'm ENTP. Do with that what you will.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am in my last year of a PhD program at USC in Epidemiology (study of diseases in human populations). I had planned on staying in academia, though the thought of opening up a non-profit music venue somewhere sure is enticing!!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Solving problems. Putting off studying to go to a show or do something more fun than studying. Road trips (love 'em!). Winning contests...not sure how, but I tend to win a lot of contests (i.e. concert tickets, trips to NYC...etc). Unfortunately, this luck does not apply in me, I've tried.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes, I guess.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Music - I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty snobby about music. I mostly listen to: Indie rock (Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, James Blake, Death Cab...etc); the classics (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke); electronic - mostly downtempo hip hop'y stuff (DJ Shadow, RJD2, Four Tet, Bonobo, Maya Jane Coles, Deltron 3030); old school punk rock (Ramones, Joy Division, The Clash...etc); I do NOT like pop, top 40, or modern country.

UPDATE - I've been listening to Leon Bridges on repeat!

Movies - I love love love movies!! Generally, I prefer what most of Americans would call "artsy" movies. I, however, do not label them as such since movie making is an art form, and therefore all movies should be "artsy". Movies that are not (i.e. anything produced by Michael Bay) are just low quality movies, in my opinion. A few directors I love: Richard Linklater, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Rian Johnson. I'm a sucker for 80s comedies, too (Caddyshack, Fletch, The Princess Bride).

TV - mostly anything on HBO/Showtime. Also, IT Crowd, Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight w/ John Oliver (though that's on HBO)

Food - everything! slowly but surely making my way through the Jonathon Gold 101

Podcasts - Love 'em! I'm obsessed with This American Life! I've listened to every episode since 1996 (I'm currently working my way back to the beginning). I also love Fresh Air, anything by Gimlet media, 99% Invisible, and Invisibilia
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My music; my macbook - mostly because it has all my music on it; my passport; good conversation; internet - because I like to look up stuff I don't know, and it is much faster than going to the library; friends/family
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How this or that musician was able to write this amazing song I am listening to.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
There really is no such thing as a typical Friday night in my life. I am either watching a band play at one of the many amazing venues in LA, at home studying, out with friends at a bar, or, relaxing over coffee/tea with a friend at a local coffee shop. Just depends I guess.
