My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
My love for music - mostly downtempo electronic, smart hip-hop, and indie rock - has to be first and foremost. After that, I'd say I'm outgoing, smart, and adventurous. I love to travel and have been to 20 countries - backpacking through most of them. I'd prefer to stay in a hostel, any day, over a swanky hotel! I love to learn, laugh, and try new things.

I love seeing live bands, movies, art, and the outdoors. I'm a biologist, so I love nature - Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places in the world! I got scuba certified in Australia a couple years ago and have tried to go as many times as possible since then.

I love a good whiskey (Rye > Bourbon > Scotch), a good beer (I'm currently on a Sour kick), and most food (trying to work my way through Jonathan Gold's 101).

Love camping and road trips!!

Lastly, I'm ENTP. Do with that what you will.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am working on a PhD at USC in Epidemiology (study of diseases in human populations), and plan on staying in academia as a research professor when I'm done (unless I can get a job working overseas with the WHO or CDC).
When I am not working on school stuffs, I go to a lot of shows...I try to get to 1 or 2 shows a week, though that doesn't always happen.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Solving problems. Putting off studying to go to a show or do something more fun than studying. Road trips (love 'em!). Winning contests...not sure how, but I tend to win a lot of contests (i.e. concert tickets, trips to NYC...etc). Unfortunately, this luck does not apply in me, I've tried.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes, I guess.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Music - I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty snobby about music. I mostly listen to: Indie rock (Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, James Blake, Death Cab...etc); electronic - mostly downtempo hip hop'y stuff (DJ Shadow, RJD2, Four Tet, Bonobo, Maya Jane Coles, Deltron 3030); old school punk rock (Ramones, Joy Division, The Clash...etc); the classics (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel, David Bowie, Bob Dylan). I do NOT like pop, top 40, or modern country.

Movies - I love love love movies!! Generally, I prefer what most of Americans would call "artsy" movies. I, however, do not label them as such since movie making is an art form, and therefore all movies should be "artsy". Movies that are not (i.e. anything produced by Michael Bay) are just low quality movies, in my opinion. A few directors I love: Richard Linklater, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Rian Johnson. I'm a sucker for 80s comedies, too (Caddyshack, Fletch, The Princess Bride).

TV - IT Crowd, Homeland, True Detective, The Leftovers, Bored to Death, Shameless (UK & US), Boardwalk Empire, Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight w/ John Oliver

Food - slowly but surely making my way through the Jonathon Gold 101

Podcasts - I'm obsessed with This American Life! I've listened to every episode since 1996 (I'm currently working my way back to the beginning). Their new offshoot, Serial, is also pretty amazing!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My music; my macbook - mostly because it has all my music on it; my passport; good conversation; internet - because I like to look up stuff I don't know, and it is much faster than going to the library; friends/family
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How this or that musician was able to write this amazing song I am listening to.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
There really is no such thing as a typical Friday night in my life. I am either watching a band play at one of the many amazing venues in LA, at home studying, out with friends at a bar, or, relaxing over coffee/tea with a friend at a local coffee shop. Just depends I guess.
