My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a nature lover, a music geek, and a cynical idealist who tries to keep an open mind and appreciate the rich beauty of life's many wonders large and small. I prefer to take life slowly (as any of my friends can tearfully attest!) so I can experience moments more fully and just relax from the frenetic pace of society. That being said, I'm also very excitable and can be found dancing like a maniac or climbing trees or singing passionately at a moment's notice. I hate how much of our society is dominated by consumerism and materialism and I try to curb those impulses in myself. I am most happy when I'm out in the natural landscape: I love hiking, camping, rock climbing, canyoneering, and most outdoor adventuring. I also love listening closely to music, playing my keyboard, and jamming with friends. I'm fairly politically minded and starting to get involved with activism in Tucson. I studied sociology in college and continue to think about topics like gender norms, patriarchy, race, and privilege on a regular basis. Finally, I am a lover of absurdity and love to laugh, often too loudly.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Hiking all around the desert doing biological field work. A couple years ago I had the time of my life working on a wilderness conservation crew in the California desert, and ever since I've been trying to gain skills and experiences in the conservation world. Lately I've been enamored with the big skies and wide open spaces of the American West, especially desert landscapes. I have fallen in love with Tucson's combination of amazing desert wilderness and creative progressive community so I am planning on sticking around for the near future.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Keeping an open mind, speaking honestly, thinking things through, making mix CDs, groovin' to the music, dancing like a fool, appreciating the natural world wherever I happen to be, running around on steep rocky slopes filled with cholla and not killing myself (yet), and Scrabble
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Hopefully not that I resemble a certain boy wizard (the beard seems to be helping...)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine is my all-time favorite album. It taught me to not always listen to music so critically or consciously but instead let the sound envelop and wash over me. Some other musical heroes: Neil Young, Wilco, Jimi Hendrix, Sufjan Stevens, Rufus Wainwright, Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple, Gram Parsons, Four Tet, Elliott Smith, Smog/Bill Callahan, Neko Case, Beck, Kurt Vile, Stevie Wonder, John Fahey. Recently became obsessed with Stereolab.

Favorite authors: Steinbeck, Ursula LeGuin, Edward Abbey, Jonathan Franzen. I generally enjoy fantasy, dystopian/utopian literature, sociology and cultural studies, biographies, and nature writing. Recently finished the behemoth that is Infinite Jest so if you want to talk about that, hit me up!

TV: The Wire, Louie, Mad Men, Treme, Democracy Now, Bill Maher

Regarding food, I am easy to please. I love sweets a little too much and I'm all about Southeast Asian cuisines.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Music, natural beauty, solitude, good friends, curiosity, and ice cream
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Learning to live in the moment, how to best use my time, my privilege, how technology is affecting us as people, masculinity and gender, race, the social/environmental consequences of global capitalism, and most importantly, baseball.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Communing with bears deep in the Rincon Mountains
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm quite fond of Paul Shaffer, the short bald-headed musical sidekick of Letterman who most people seem to find excruciatingly annoying.
