My self-summary
*** UPDATE: I AM CURRENTLY OUT OF COUNTRY. THIS MEANS I CAN'T MEET UP AND LIKELY WON'T BE REPLYING TO MESSAGES FREQUENTLY. ***

In some particular order, here are some things I like:
Good food.
Sarcastic people.
Being outside.
Going fast.
Eating slowly.
Nerds.
Making pie.
The plucky sounds of acoustic guitars.
Silly dancing.
Getting letters in the mail.
Sports. (Generally, I like doing them rather than watching them; some exceptions exist.)
Thunderstorms.
Whistling.
Rubbing the hair on cats' heads in the wrong direction so they look like they have little mohawks.

In no particular order, here are some things I don't like:
Schedules.
Drinking water. (This one is weird, I know.)
People who are afraid of new things.
Food that doesn't taste like what it's made of.
Food that nobody knows what it's made of.
Bad grammar.
Those hairless cats.
Apathy.
The expected.
What I’m doing with my life
Right now I'm working part-time as a physiotherapist, and just finished a sustainable agriculture program. These two aspects of my life aren't really related, but I don't see them as mutually exclusive interests either. A lot of my time is spent contemplating how these things might both fit into my future.

Other things I am doing with my life include: growing food in backyards/front yards, cooking and eating with friends, cycling, reading, chasing frisbees, travelling, and figuring out what I'm doing with my life.
I’m really good at
Remembering numbers.
Word searches and unscrambling letters.
Making delicious experiments.
Losing things.
Avoiding cleaning my room. (This helps with the losing of things.)
Forgetting socks.
Forgetting what it was I forgot. (It was usually socks.)
Going with the flow.
Finding room for dessert.
Thinking of things several minutes too late.
Styling cats' hair.
The first things people usually notice about me
This depends largely upon the context in which they meet me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - Oh gosh, it's too hard to narrow down. Anne Fadiman absolutely delights me. I've been on a bit of a Kay Ryan poetry kick lately. I'm currently finishing up Tom Robbins' Jitterbug Perfume, and wading through some essays by David Foster Wallace. Recently finished a collection of Calvino short stories, and before that I tumbled through a wonderful graphic novel called Blue Pills, by Frederik Peeters - I'd highly recommend it, it breaks down a lot of the myths around HIV/AIDS and presents a beautiful and incredibly human insight into the realities of living with it. Other people whose writings I enjoy include Murakami, Orwell, Kundera, Eggers, Joan Didion, Dorothy Parker, and intermittently, for a bit more chewing, old man Chomsky. Also, one of my favourite books of all time is Le Petit Prince. It's as wonderful now as it was when I was eight.

Movies - Quirky comedies. Clever satires. Diligent documentaries. Faulted protagonists. Accidental finds. Disney musicals. Shifting perspectives.

TV - The Daily Show, Arrested Development, Californication, BBC nature documentaries, British comedies.
I've been half-heartedly meaning to watch The Wire and Breaking Bad, but time always seems to escape me. Not having a TV and being far too lazy to download shows really cuts down on my TV-watching.

Radio & Podcasts - RadioLab, Philosophy Bites, CBC's The Debaters, Q, Democracy Now!, This American Life.

Music - Almost all kinds, depending on my mood and what I'm doing at the time. Artists on my playlist right now include: The National, Tallest Man on Earth, Aphex Twin, Beirut, Cat Power, Bon Iver, Phantogram, Bill Evans Trio, Yann Tiersen, David Bowie, Andrew Bird, Television, Felix Mendelssohn, Paul Simon, Laura Marling, Maria in the Shower, Parov Stelar... To be honest though, I just siphon most of my collection courtesy of music buff friends who have better taste in music than me. I also really like any tunes that I can sing, and will almost certainly like any tunes that you can sing.

Food - For me this category requires a whole separate discussion. If you are passionate about food, we probably have a lot to talk about.
The six things I could never do without

Books
Music

Asking questions
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Food.

Where to go next.
How to improve the life I have.
How to deserve the life I have.
The numerous ways in which I am a hypocrite.
How beautiful this world is.
How fucked up this world is.
What we mean when we talk about sustainability.
Stephen Harper's untimely demise.
Shit, what did I forget again? ... Socks.
On a typical Friday night I am
a) Eating with friends
b) Playing board games
e) Shooting pool at the pub
d) Puttering in my garden
e) Baking a pie
f) Probably unaware what night of the week it is
