My self-summary
I've sunk a lot of time into physics and computer science in the last few years; these days I'm looking to branch out to other interests, especially the arts. I like making things -- software, drawings, food, etc.

I just started skiing last winter. I really want to get good at it this coming season -- so ski buddies would be awesome.

I happen to be quite into kink, mostly as a dom.

I used to play amateur Scrabble, and I think I still retain some facility for anagramming.
What I’m doing with my life
1. To quote Carl Sagan, if one wants to make an apple pie from scratch, one has to first invent the universe. You could say that I'm trying to figure out how to build that metaphorical apple pie from scratch.

2. Making and breaking software. Occasionally writing about it.

3. Working on my drawing skills. I've found that kink porn is actually a pretty good reference for figure drawing. The variety of poses, the tensed muscles... go figure (ha!).

4. Re-learning the piano.

5. Cooking, occasionally. I make pretty decent steaks and grilled salmon.
I’m really good at
Making terribly amazing (amazingly terrible?) puns.

More seriously: Doing abstract reasoning stuff. Programming, Physics, Math, etc.
The first things people usually notice about me
Tall, thin, fair-skinned. And that I might pass off as a girl if I dressed appropriately (not that I've tried)

I've also been likened to an anime character. I recently acquired a snapback with anime-style eyes, so that resemblance may be even more striking now.

My hair is occasionally purple.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Unbearable Lightness of Being is one of my all-time favorites. I've reread it multiple times over the years, and each time I understand it a little more.

Other good books include The Diamond Age (by Neal Stephenson), Patton (biography of the WW2 general), Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Musicophilia (by Oliver Sacks). The Sandman series (by Neil Gaiman). Cloud Atlas (book beats the movie).

Shows: Game of Thrones, House of Cards. Depictions of fucked-up power dynamics never cease to entertain.

Music: Stars, RHCP, The Killers, Panic! at the Disco, The Postal Service, Deathcab, The New Pornographers, Florence + the Machine. And Drake, of course. A surprising fraction of my favorite artists are Canadian.

Manga: Nana to Kaoru.

Anime: Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Movies: V for Vendetta, Dark Waters, The Matrix, Kick Ass, 500 Days of Summer, Scott Pilgrim vs The Rest of the World.
Food: I dislike most vegetables. (Exceptions: Arugula! And to some extent, celery and asparagus.) Asian food is generally awesome -- particularly Japanese, Korean, and Thai. Thai Basil Beef + Fried Egg on white rice is one of my favorites. Am also a big fan of salmon.
The six things I could never do without
* My computer
* The Internet

You can obtain / construct almost anything with those two, so I'm done here.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How systems work, or fail to work. Especially curious about the way power and authority get obtained.

This clip amuses me endlessly:
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Most of what I know was learnt off the Internet.
You should message me if
You satisfy one or more of the following:
* You're passionate about something, and can talk about it
* You're into kink, or curious to know more about it
* You like food (either as a consumer or producer... the latter is usually known as a 'cook')
* You appreciate the scientific method
* You like singing (intoning?) the Rains of Castamere
