My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
A number of years back, I heard of a poll that indicated a significant majority of women would rather date an unemployed philosopher with hair and reasonably fit than a bank owner who was overweight and balding. Well, all you ladies with enough in the bank already (or those with true grit), here's your chance! I've got loads of education, am affectionate and helpful around the house, and come with my very own wardrobe and accessories - not to mention my sardonic sense of humor (often aimed at banksters) and the fact that I still own a pulse. If you could make synergy with a shy, task-oriented character actor with more ideas than money - someone to share the road more than ensconce you in splendor - well, I might be your guy. Yes, a dog can give you the same unconditional affection when you come home, but can they run errands, cook, clean, paint, give you suggestions, zip up your dress (or unzip as the case may be), make jokes, expertly edit your photos, or help you or your descendents decipher the mysteries of the universe? Can they even take themselves for a walk when you're too tired? I come with two highly educated kids living on their own who are always ready and able to take your side in any disagreement.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
In a word - downsizing; shedding non-essentials while waiting for my computer to finish something; trying to apply what I know to what is needed; losing reverence for human institutions while discovering truth and beauty in individuals and in the unconscious realities of the physical world; finding photographs among memorabilia of the past and discovering new ones as I walk down the street; trying to choose hope, not fear.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
shopping for bargains, funny voices, and poking fun of the news - both the subjects and the way they are presented.
The first things people usually notice about me

is that I have hair, a jaw, and am trying to get something done - (even if it's just watching a movie). Full disclosure: I'm a thinking person with hair, not literally a "philosopher". Also, I was born with a defect. (OK, I have plenty of acquired ones too.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Mostly read nonfiction about art, design, photography, sometimes biographies. I watch movies because I can finish them a lot faster than a novel. I like the old, mostly black and white movies based on books, and neorealist Italian and French New Wave films, surrealism (Luis Bunuel is probably my favorite director) like That Obscure Object of Desire, Viridiana, etc. Jim Jarmusch's Night on Earth and Steven Soderberg's Schizopolis are very funny indie films. Like to watch PBS for news and education. Don't listen to music much these days, but am comfortable with acoustic forms of jazz, folk, world, and chamber music. I like cooking at home or ethnic restaurants out - more of a social, not regular, drinker now.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
sunlight, perception, memory, language, humor, and the public realm with its essential services
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
really boring stuff like: history, the grammar of thought, epistemology, fiscal policy, how and why to take photographs, fascist hoaxes, and what the aliens from outer space or the future are actually up to ... (and jokes):)
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
catching the news on PBS, avoiding the crowds, and taking a walk on the quiet side.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My profile name means "interrupted sleeper". I am prone to wake up after 4 to 5.5 hours and not get back to sleep for a couple hours, give or take. Sometimes, I choose to get up early, sometimes get a little more sleep. I'm told this is the way cave men used to sleep. I promise not wake you - unless early in evening, wake full passion, search for origin, tongue go - "gong-n-gong-n-gong-n-gaaaah" ... :)

you're fairly fit and liberal minded, with a good sense of humor, love for art, respect for science, and a willingness to hike and see what there is to see.
