I'm artistic, spiritual, sensitive, and always seeking to make sure everyone wins whenever possible. I'm an optimistic person by nature. If you're a gentle soul, faithful, monogamous, loving, noncombative, artistic/crafty, and love the simple things in life, I'd love to hear from you.

I've spent the last month or so working feverishly to help the refugees of the Agriprocessor fiasco in Postville through the radio station, handing out food, serving meals, getting them bus tickets back home, locating new jobs, and a hundred other things...quite a step out of my comfort zone, but sometimes you have to get out there and do the right thing when no one else seems to want to, you know?

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

I'm a fulltime freelance writer and editor, as well as a long-time professional musician, and now have two shows on our local community radio station...one featuring smooth jazz and the other focusing on the blues. I've published four books of my own and ghosted thirty others. I'm also a published songwriter and I've played guitar on nearly 100 studio cuts over the years.

The funny thing is, though, I'm actually shy and live a simple life on my small farm. We're in the process of setting up a goat operation for my 21-yr-old-son to run. We'll have my 23-yr-old daughter run the cheese, soap, and other goat product business, so it should be an interesting entrepreneurial endeavor all the way around. Stay tuned, as we say in radio.

I'm self-sufficient, artistic, spiritual, and I love nature. I live on a small farm where I see many more deer and turkeys than people, and since I work on the Internet, there can be days go by when all I see are wild creatures...but to me, nature is where Truth resides.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit

They'll notice that my hair is longer and I generally wear a blues fedora (as you can see in my pix), a Hawaiian shirt, and rarely wear shoes. I don't mind being different. In fact, I've spent a lifetime trying to be true to myself and my life mission, which, by definition, means I've forged my own path, trying to bring joy and to help people realize their dreams. I've always chosen the road less traveled.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

I enjoy comedies when it comes to film, although I also enjoy films about human potential, as well. I read almost entirely nonfiction, including lots of things about the various mysteries of the universe, inside and out.

I love the blues and smooth jazz, but I've played rock, country, bluegrass, and even Hawaiian music over the course of my musical career. I like everything except heavy metal, opera, and rap.

Foodwise, my tastes are simple...meat and potatoes variety, mostly. I live on a small farm and love the simpler country life.

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

My guitar, something to read that will expand my mind, my ability to fish and paddle my canoe, and someone to love me and to allow me to love them the best way I know how.

Life in general, eclectic things, how to improve the world and help people achieve their dreams, making money without having a "real" job, and coming up with fresh ideas for my magazine column (I've written a humor/inspiration column for Iowa's largest rural monthly since 1996, reaching 185,000 readers).

On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit

At home, working on some project for the farm...or doing a live radio program at the radio station. I can also be found fishing and canoeing on a nearby lake here in NE Iowa. I'm a catch-and-release guy, but I love to catch 'em.

I'm somewhat reclusive and shy, although even people who have known me for decades don't know that because I'm alright in social situations if I'm with one other person. I'm also OK if I have a "role" to play, such as musician or radio personality. My ego is fragile and I dislike confrontation.
