i start every day with an iced coffee (just a little bit of ice) and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. i end every day listening to music in my lofted bed. in between, i do the following:

study the brain, try new restaurants, go to rock shows, punch large bags, take photographs around nyc and edit them, argue about typography, convince people to buy apple products, solve math equations (where necessary), search new york for its best iced espresso drinks, eat lunch by the garibaldi statue, and occasionally get back in the lofted bed.

i'm a grad student in computational neuroscience. i study visual perception. it's really cool.

brains. and explaining brains to five-year-olds.

these days i usually like either math-related non-fiction (history of infinity by david foster wallace) or sexed-up french fiction (elementary particles by michel houellebecq). but my favorite books of all time are moby dick and the hobbit.

favorite movies this year were the hurt locker and thirst. i like most films by alfonso cuaron, wes anderson, stanley kubrick, kevin smith, david wain, hayao miyazaki, and pedro almodovar. my favorite movie of all time might be my neighbor totoro. i just really like the idea of a giant furry forest spirit who lets little kids take naps on him all day.

bands i like listening to are okkervil river, broken social scene, daft punk, sunset rubdown, wilco, the mountain goats, of montreal, islands, the field, andrew bird, spoon, phoenix, feist, and weezer. but i'm into seeing little-er bands at little-er venues.

i like trying new restaurants every day, but my stand bys are: bastilla at cafe mogador, iced coffee at think coffee, pretzel covered caramel/chocolate truffle at bespoke, paisa arepa at caracas, pizza at john's pizzeria, and french fries with mango sauce at pomme frites.

and television (roughly in order or importance to my life, past and present): lost, stella, arrested development, the office, the o.c., californication, veronica mars, gossip girl, the tudors, michael and michael have issues, glee.
