My self-summary
I struggle with how passive OKC seems. There is a whole lot of rating going on but hardly anyone takes the time to start a conversation. It does make me wonder what the point is. We invest all this energy into browsing the options and then take zero action? It's not hard to send a halfway intelligent message - even if it's not a "LOVE" match - sometimes we can just delight in the company of a new personality, right? Anyway, on to the other stuff... and not just my fussiness.

I am technically an adult. I do grown-up things like update my resume, act professionally when the situation calls for it, cook, clean, travel for work, and pay my bills. I also have some more typically "childish" pursuits like playing video games (sometimes), watching cartoons (kind of a lot), and have been known to read comic books/graphic novels. It’s a modern world, most of this is now pretty normal, and these things can probably co-exist.

INFJ if that is something that matters to you. We were required to take the test for work... I may as well share the results.

Moar: Gets fussed when people use "lol" like it is punctuation. Plays some tabletop games. Has never played an MMO. Not bad at poker, pretty good at pool, dreck bowler (but it’s still super fun to try). Do not look "my age" (or so I've been told). Prefers Coke over Pepsi. Is usually the shortest person in the room. Does not particularly like cake, nor pizza. Obsesses over words. Believes in naps. Unable to juggle. Has been known to say terribly direct and slightly awful things just for effect. Sometimes says things to which there is simply no reply possible or reasonable. Wears Converse and jeans almost every day. Does not believe in "bonus points."

I spent my youth in Montana but now do not hike, ski, canoe, climb, or otherwise get out of the city much at all. (I don't know that I am opposed to these activities, it just isn't on offer in my current reality.) Actually do know how to ride a horse (though it's been years), can also ride a bike. I do not have an iPhone because I am not interested in joining a cult - but it's okay if you are into that sort of thing. I like to read, it's important to me that I always have one book in progress and another in the queue. I enjoy stories, questions, and explanations. This is not the best summary of who I am, but it's a start.

Self-Aggrandizing list:
• Pretty level-headed and down to earth
• Generous
• Recently presented with an award for being "The Best"
• There should be more, right?

Looking for: Someone who...
• has a great sense of humor.
• is a bit more spontaneous than I am.
• wants to travel.
• will challenge me/teach me new things.
has some of the same cultural touchstones.

I think that I prefer to be friends with someone before I start dating them, and maybe this bites me in the ass, I can't really tell. That being said, I'm also looking for someone who isn't afraid to get caught up because it feels right, right then. I may not be the most romantic person in the world, but these are the moments that really stand out in my heart.
What I’m doing with my life
I am not a huge fan of this question because I'm not totally sure...

During my 9-5 I do quite a lot of attending meetings, clicking the buttons on my mouse, staring, typing words, and talking to developers.

As far as my "life" goes - Still searching for the best path forward but in the meantime I'm looking to experience the world and make a bunch of spectacular memories.
I’m really good at
• Packing light
• Making my bed almost every day
• Dancing when no one is looking
• Cheating at board games
• Never updating my blog
• Taking side streets
• I also have lovely penmanship
The first things people usually notice about me
Depends. If they see me, it is probably that I am short. If they hear me, it is probably my laugh, or my sneeze. I don't normally ask people what they first notice about me, and I'm not very likely to do the research, so it's all a guessing game here folks.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Authors: Tom Holt, Jasper Fforde, Terry Pratchett, A. Lee Martinez, Jack Kerouac, Cory Doctorow, Clive Barker, Christopher Buckley, Christopher Moore, Ernest Cline, Neal Stephenson, Brandon Mull, Robert Rankin, Douglas Adams, J.R.R. Tolkien, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Hugh Howey, Laurie R. King, Kurt Vonnegut, Brian K. Vaughan, Orson Scott Card, Neil Gaiman, Max Barry.

Movie Genres: I generally like comedies, dramas, science fiction, and thrillers. I really don't like gory movies/torture porn. Years ago I was *forced* to go watch Dawn of the Dead, and still sometimes have scary dreams that incorporate imagery from that movie.

Movies (Let's get specific): Moon, Brick, Primer, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, almost any SyFy Original Movie, Labyrinth, Oldboy (though this is less a favorite than it is memorable.), Big Fish, Dracula, Drop Dead Fred, all of the LOTR movies, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, The Neverending Story, Goonies, Hot Fuzz, Control, Total Recall, Christmas in Connecticut (1945), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ronin, Poolhall Junkies, Battle Royale, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The World's Greatest Lover (1977), Leningrad Cowboys Go America.

Shows: Venture Brothers, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Eureka, Lost Girl, Rome, The Wire, Deadwood, Justified, Top Gear (both of them), Metalocalypse, Futurama, Justified, Better Off Ted, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Community, Big O, An Idiot Abroad, Trailer Park Boys, Star Trek (in general, though I like TNG and forward better than the Original Series), Merlin, The A-Team (I always love the weapon-building montage), Red Dwarf, Bob's Burgers, Grimm, 10 Items or Less.

Music: 13 & God, AIR, Amanda Blank, The Antlers, Apparat, Baths, Blockhead, Blonde Redhead, Bonobo, Breakbeat Era, BT, The Church, Crookers, The Cure, Daft Punk, Danger, David Bowie, DJ Shadow, Echo & The Bunnymen, Eels, Elbow, FreQ. Nasty, Hybrid, Joy Division, Kemistry & Storm, Loveage, M83, Morphine, Moloko, Mum, The Notwist, Peaches, Placebo, Ratatat, Squarepusher, Steed Lord, The The, Tricky... OR: Spotify Playlist

Food: I like pretty much all kinds, but have been thinking about this recently and if forced to choose one type of food to eat forever would select "curry" as this selection is nebulous and changeable enough that my mouth would never get bored.
The six things I could never do without
• Something to look forward to
• Corrective lenses
• A sense of place
• Something to read
• Interesting questions/Great conversations
• Streams, lakes, rivers, oceans...
• A pressurized cabin
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Furniture design. Dreams I've had. Architecture. Things people have told me either recently or long past. Whether I should use "a" or "an" in a sentence. The best way to steal funny lines from other OKC users - newest best line that I wish I could successfully incorporate into my own profile: "Friday night I usually want to just recharge my batteries and then hump." Or, the best way to steal just plain GREAT lines from other OKC users - best today, slightly modified: "One lesson I've learned is that ultimately life goes on without any of the things you though you couldn't live without."
On a typical Friday night I am
Overall, trying to figure out the world around me and people's motivations. Maybe reading? Watching the previous week's SyFy Original movie (Sharknado was both as bad and as good as I thought it would be)? Screwing around on OKC? Trying to distill the day or week's memories into something worth putting pen to paper? Wondering what I will be when I grow up? Going out for a billiards match or re-match. Holding up one end of some bar. Making dinner with a friend. I keep it pretty simple and close to home on a "typical" Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The most private thing? Naw. Here are some not-terribly-private things:

I have a cache of blank cards so that I don't have to run to the store if I find myself suddenly needing one. I've never been to the Grand Canyon. I'd like to take a hot air balloon ride. (I'd like to pair these adventures but I think that the canyons would provide a horrendously wild ride.) I've never met a puppy that didn't make me say "Awwww." Disneyworld figures in to my plans for the future, somehow. I might be afraid of heights - I recently rode the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier in Chicago and came very very close to completely losing my shit while in the air. I've been known to drink on a Monday.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 25–43
  • Located anywhere
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
...any of the above sounds interesting and you would like to get together for some coffee, a drink, a game of pool, or... I don't know... anything else that sounds like a fun thing for two relative strangers to do together. Also if you are tall. Everyone LOOKS pretty tall to me but... if you are tall for real. I can't reach a lot of stuff in my cupboards, or on top of my fridge.

I'm quite serious when I say I am looking for people to date, yes, but also for friends. There are all sorts of really worthwhile people in the world and I don't feel like I have to take off my pants for all of them.

I know, I know... "Buhhhhhh! j_essika, you are the WORST! This is a dating site! I don't need any more friends! I just checked that box to seem cool."
