My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Disclaimer: this portion is a bit dramatic, but I'm too lazy to change it. :P (Also, don't let the 'replies selectively' deter you; I will reply as long as the conversation is going somewhere).

Who am I?

I am the sum of my parts. I am my opinions, my friends, and my actions. I am what I will leave behind. I am a secular humanist, a believer in the world and in many things—but not in any god. I am loving, passionate, and concerned. I am driven, bright-eyed, and intelligent.

And yet, I am also flawed. I have been hurt and am at times jaded. I have loved and lost, and am not immune from sadness. I am never perfect, but always trying to improve.

And for the record, my name is Michael (apparently I lack the creativity to think of a catchy username with it).

ENFJ, if you get me.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am currently a sophomore at UT and a Petroleum Engineering Honors student. I hope to use the petroleum industry as a stepping stone to many things. In the course of my life, I definitely want to: work abroad, enjoy my daily life and work, retire as a teacher in a disadvantaged area, and make a difference in whatever I do. I consider the following occupations after petroleum: psychology, geology, environmental research, environmental law, non-profit work, and entrepreneurship.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Grammar, budgeting, sharing fantastic music, pretending I can dance well, spreading love in the world, putting my foot in my mouth, apologizing, being a tease unintentionally, and then apologizing more (I'm really trying to work on these).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
hmmm.... my vocabulary.

(I swear I'm not pretentious, I just really, reaaally love words. Some favorites are: propitious, menagerie, dearth, avaricious, avuncular, perspicacious, and the Spanish word trabajaba. :)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Tangled, The Bicycle Thief, Seven Pounds, Get Real, A Single Man, All the Real Girls, Easy A, Mean Girls (duh).

Also, I love, love, LOVE Avatar the Last Airbender (the series NOT the movie).

Books: East of Eden, Shakespearean Sonnets, Our Town, The Bell Jar, The Catcher in the Rye, Eat Pray Love, The Glass Menagerie, Las Cronicas de Narnia.

Music: Regina Spektor, Ella Fitzgerald, The Ink Spots, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Eric Whitacre, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, Horse Feathers, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Joni Mitchell, Abgail Washburn, Jack Johnson, Andrew Bird.... and on and on.

Food: basically all of it. One of my favorite things to do is bake/cook and lately I've been diving into different cuisines. Now my goal is not only to cook well, but also to cook healthy food on a budget.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
(In no particular order)
1) Family and Friends
2) NPR
3) My kitchen (baking, cooking, grilling)
4) Singing (I do it quite frequently)
5) Culture (new things, music, art, languages, diversity)
6) The outdoors (hiking, camping, swimming, YOGA)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Morality from a secular perspective. My future, my past, and how I can work on staying more present. Ways I can search after my own happiness and ways I can help make the world a better place.

On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Depending on the Friday....
....watching a movie with friends....going downtown to halcyon, the capitol, and speculating about life with friends....pleasantly buzzed from good drinks and company....reading a book...going to sleep early to wake up early for work.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm so bad at pop culture references that I considered making flash cards.

I use the smell/look test to determine if I'll wear not only my jeans, but all of my clothes.

Though I will try my best not to, I will judge you if you can't distinguish "its" from "it's", or "your" from "you're" etc. Just being honest.

Some of my writing, if you ask (most private thing I'd share... not admit. whatever).

When something beautiful or sad hits me unaware, I'm likely shed a few tears.

Being single, I snuggle with my pillows every night; it's a toss up as for who's going to be big spoon.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
If you are foremost nice, secondly love to learn, and all around, love to have fun. If you would build a fort and watch a movie in it. If you like camping, discovering cities, and volunteering. If some of your favorite things include candles, rain on a tin roof, tea, and sweater weather. If you feel an innate need to make the world a better place in some way. If you are long-term oriented, but not a let's-settle-down-now kind of person. If the idea of friendship first is alright with you. If you enjoy intellectual conversations. If you are empathetic and unafraid to admit fault and beauty in yourself.
