I am friendly, vague, and elitist.

My Self-Summary

I'm Ben.

I'm quarter of a century old, and feel I have been extremely unproductive in this time. This both pleases and scares me.

I'm a music and video game nerd, and proud of it. I'm extremely elitist when it comes to music, particularly.

On this topic: I have very strong opinions about most things, but I'm not aggressive about them* - I love having a discussion with someone else that has a strong opinion. Disagreements are fun when they are good-natured! And with me they usually are.

I'm usually pretty blunt and straightforward about things - however, when it comes to romantic entanglements I seem to say the wrong things at the wrong times (as well as the wrong things at the right time, or the right thing at the wrong time on occasion). However, I'm definitely a believer that actions speak louder than words.

*with one exception. I'm pretty passionately anti-religious - if you need fairy stories to give an explanation for what is outside the realms of man's current perception of the world, you're probably not my type of person. However, I do love having this discussion with Scientologists and other loonies, so if you are highly religious, feel free to message me if you're looking for an argument. ;) I think Bill Maher's movie "Religulous" comes close to summarising my thoughts on religion.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm studying nursing for the next two and a half years, then travelling for a little while, coming back, going to do my masters in something completely unrelated (thinking political science at the moment), and then do my midwifery degree afterwards.

I’m really good at

conversations. Trivia (musical and otherwise). Final Fantasy VII. Rote learning.

The first things people usually notice about me

Glasses, shaggy hair, and beard. Or whatever variety of odd clothing I have on at that time. If people see me without my glasses, then my eyes, probably.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
Magician series by Raymond E. Feist
Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix (If I have to pick just one)
The Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli

Movies:
Amelie
Shawnshank Redemption
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
The Truman Show
Toy Story (1 & 2)
Spirited Away
My Neighbour Totoro
The 400 Blows
This Is Spinal Tap
Pan's Labyrinth
Dr Strangelove, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb
Seven Samurai
Rushmore

TV Shows:
The Office (US & UK)
Futurama
Simpsons
Dr Katz, Professional Therapist
Mystery Science Theatre 3000
M*A*S*H
NewsRadio
The IT Crowd
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Fawlty Towers
Mighty Boosh
Flight Of The Conchords
Curb Your Enthuisiasm
Black Books
Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister
Daily Show/Colbert Report
Late Night/The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien

Music:
I could go on and on and make this list huge. I'm going to limit myself to ten.

Radiohead
Flaming Lips
Go-Betweens
Shins
Stone Roses
Arcade Fire
Sigur Ros
Sonic Youth
Belle & Sebastian
Velvet Underground

Jesus, that was torturous. I'm not re-writing the list, I'd have to edit it every day.

Edit: Just decided this was too hard and I'm going to periodically update this with songs or albums I'm digging right now:
Andrew Bird - Noble Beast (particularly "Oh No!"... what a track!)
Wire - 154
Sarah Blasko - As Day Follows Night (ENCHANTRESS!)
Paul Simon - Graceland (Hey Vampire Weekend, you owe Paul some royalties)
Gang Of Four - Entertainment! (Incredibly underrated album)
Broken West - I Can't Go On, I'll Go On (How did this slip by me when it was released? One of my favourite things I've discovered recently)
Dappled Cities - "The Price" I think these guys definitely have stepped up to the potential they've always had. Hope this track is not a standout from a shitty album.

ALSO: my last.fm profile: probably gives a much better idea of my taste than i can. http://www.last.fm/user/hiponion

Foods:
Not many, I've got a lot of food allergies. I'm not a food lover.

The six things I could never do without

Music, Television, Liverpool FC, Love, Passion, Pride

I spend a lot of time thinking about

cute girls I happen across and extrapolating what sort of music they enjoy from the way they are dressed. The state of the world and current events and how they all interact with each other. Yes, I'm aware these things don't really have a lot to do with each other.

On a typical Friday night I am

catching up on a week's television, studying, or occasionally at a gig or catching up with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

you have to get to know me to learn private things about me.

You should message me if

you'd like to get to know me better. Naturally.

You're interested in me. I am really after a long-term relationship eventually. This seems to be a major sticking point or turn-off for some reason I can't fathom.

I'm probably looking more local than international - there's not really any prospects of me moving out of Brisbane for a good few years.
