My self-summary
Prologue: If you like me on Quick Match or like my profile, I can't see who you are, so if you want me to know you like me, just send a note. Notes that show you have read my profile are appreciated. I am looking for people within a reasonable distance so we can meet in person. Now, keep reading if you want to know more . . .

I am a mixture of laid-back and hard-working, still have kind of a hippy vibe, enjoy live music, dining out, walking in the woods in search of elusive owls. Have actually called to owls and been answered! While my chronological age is 64 (which I can't even believe!), I am young at heart and many of my friends are younger than I am. Looking for a partner/friend/lover with a good sense of humor, commitment to his work, enjoyment of life, good communication, and hopefully that elusive quality of 'chemistry' that can't really be explained, only felt.
What I’m doing with my life
I teach English at a local community college, which can be pretty intense at times. I have a lot of papers to read and grade. I do, however, make an effort to balance work with play. It would be great to have someone in my life who can encourage me to keep this balance and help me make sure to have more fun! I also write poetry, although not all that prolifically, and I sometimes read my work at open mikes. I enjoy nature, music, ethnic food of various types. I love listening to mockingbirds do their improvisational jazz bird riffs. I go to yoga class twice a week, more if I can fit it in. I am about to try learning to play the ukelele so I can bring a little Hawaii into my life this winter. And I'm also, as you can see, continuing to give online dating a try, even though it's been somewhat of a mixed bag. I guess I would prefer to meet someone in 'real life' rather than on line, but i remain cautiously hopeful about connecting via this medium.
I’m really good at
working with people of varied backgrounds, finding free or inexpensive things to do, noticing the beauty in the natural world, stopping to listen to a great saxophone solo in the T, writing poetry, pretty good conversationalist. And also some other things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I think it's my smile
Also, my silvery hair
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My musical taste leans toward folk/acoustic/americana. Some favorites include: Emmy Lou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Eilen Jewell, Steve Earle, Richard Thompson, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, acoustic blues (especially old stuff with double entendres), Billie Holiday. I am a long-time member of WUMB radio. I never listen to commercial radio. I love summer outdoor concerts and attended a bunch this past summer, including Lucinda Williams, Lowell Folk Festival, Salem Jazz Festival. I read a mix of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry although during the semester, I mostly only have time to skim articles in The New Yorker. i did just finish reading M Train by Patti Smith, which was really wonderful. I am also usually on the lookout for articles about protest music or immigration issues for courses I am teaching. I'm open to most types of food, although not a big meat eater. I like films that are a little off-beat; some favorites include Only Lovers Left Alive, Inside Llewyn Davis, Harold and Maude. I also enjoy live theater and recently saw The Great Comet at A.R.T. in Cambridge, which was a total blast!
The six things I could never do without
The Moon
I spend a lot of time thinking about
With this colder weather coming our way, I am really hoping to have someone to snuggle with this winter.

Why is it always cloudy during lunar eclipses, lyrid and geminid meteor showers, and full moons? Except for the latest harvest supermoon eclipse, which was fantastic. I toasted the red moon with a glass of red wine.

What interesting music is around?

Why do I wake up many mornings with Blondie's One Way or Another stuck in my head?
On a typical Friday night I am
Some Friday nights I am home relaxing, some others I am out listening to music or dining out with friends
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am sometimes kind of shy when I meet new people.

OkCupid really reminds me of the song "Gold Mine" by Session Americana.
You should message me if
You are intrigued by what you see in my responses. You live within a reasonable distance. You are politically left-wing and see the world in a more global than local way. You enjoy live music. You are looking for a partner/friend/lover and think you'd enjoy meeting me. My path in life has not been a straight line, and I tend to connect best with people who have traveled through some twists and turns.
