My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Prologue: If you like me on Quick Match or like my profile, I can't see who you are, so if you want me to know you like me, just send a note. Notes that show you have read my profile are appreciated. I am looking for people within a reasonable distance of where I live so we can meet in person. Now, keep reading if you want to know more . . .

I am a mixture of laid-back and hard-working, still have kind of a hippy vibe, enjoy live music (mostly folk/acoustic/americana), dining out, walking in the woods in search of elusive owls. Have actually called to owls and been answered! While my chronological age is 63 (which I can't even believe!), I am young at heart and many of my friends are younger than I am. Looking for a partner/friend/lover with a good sense of humor, commitment to his work, enjoyment of life, good communication, and hopefully that elusive quality of 'chemistry' that can't really be explained, only felt.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I teach English at a local community college, which can be pretty intense at times. I have a lot of papers to read and grade. I do, however, make an effort to balance work with play. I also write poetry, although not all that prolifically, and I sometimes read my work at open mikes. I enjoy nature, music, ethnic food of various types. I love listening to mockingbirds do their improvisational jazz bird riffs. I go to yoga class once or twice a week. I am about to try learning to play the ukelele so I can bring a little Hawaii into my life this winter. And I'm also, as you can see, giving online dating a try.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
working with people of varied backgrounds, finding free or inexpensive things to do, noticing the beauty in the natural world, stopping to listen to a great saxophone solo in the T, writing poetry, pretty good conversationalist

My musical taste leans toward folk/acoustic/americana. Some favorites include: Emmy Lou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Eilen Jewell, Steve Earle, Richard Thompson, Leonard Cohen. I also like blues, music from different cultures, and some jazz. I am a long-time member of WUMB radio. I never listen to commercial radio. One great concert I attended last year was a tribute to Sun Ra at Jordan Hall - it was truly fantastic! I love summer outdoor concerts and attended a bunch this past summer, including Chris Smither and Roseanne Cash. I read a mix of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry although during the semester, I mostly only have time to read The New Yorker. Long-time favorite book that I always enjoy re-reading is Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. I like fiction by authors from different ethnic/cultural backgrounds. I'm open to most types of food, although not a big meat eater. Really like Indian, Thai, Ethiopian, Italian, seafood, raw oysters. I like films that are a little off-beat. Fairly recent films seen: Inside Llewyn Davis (loved it!), Only Lovers Left Alive (mesmerizingly moody), and Boyhood (beautiful film). Harold and Maude is one of my all-time favorites. I also love live theater. Last spring I saw an absolutely wonderful production of The Tempest at A.R.T. with music by Tom Waits!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The Moon
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Why is it always cloudy during lunar eclipses, lyrid meteor showers, and full moons?
What interesting music is around?
Why do I wake up many mornings with Blondie's One Way or Another stuck in my head?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Some Friday nights I am home relaxing, some others I am out listening to music or dining out with friends
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am sometimes kind of shy when I meet new people.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You are intrigued by what you see in my responses. You live within a reasonable distance. You are politically left-wing and see the world in a more global than local way. You enjoy live music. You are looking for a partner/friend/lover and think you'd enjoy meeting me. You are more interested in finding someone to hopefully develop a relationship with than in going on a lot of first dates with new people. My path in life has not been a straight line, and I tend to connect best with people who have traveled through some twists and turns.
