My Self-Summary

Quick status update: Not really checking OKC alot lately, if I don't get back to you immediately it's not personal :)

I'm an oddball :) I'm a true Gemini, though not everything written about Geminis is true. I don't necessarily believe in Astrology as science, but hey, when the description fits, wear it, and most of my friends' signs match. I'm open minded about life, politics, religion. Personally I'm fairly independent thinking, and tend to the liberal side of things.

I'm looking for that relationship that stays brightly sparked, keeps me on my toes, yet is stable enough to settle in for going beyond dating if it works out brilliantly. I'm not JUST here for that (in fact I joined here for tests long before I considered it a dating site) and would be happy to meet friends here too. To be honest I'm a bit shy in some situations (I'm fine 1:1 but in large groups I can hit overload). If I meet that "right one" here or elsewhere I'll rejoice and be back to just using the site for tests again :)

My philosophy on politics is much the same as religion: First, there is no "right answer" for anyone but yourself. Next, life is about exchange of ideas and evolution of your person. Last, if you won't listen openly to ideas from someone else, then you really don't need to be giving them yours.

For me religion is to be about your way of life as much as your values or it just makes no sense and you're better off feeling non-religious but with defined scruples/morals. This paragraph scares off as many people as it attracts but better that than to get into a friendship and find out this is a barrier later on. Simply put I don't fit into the typical midwest religious molds and almost surely never will. I'll never push my religious ideas on anyone but am happy to discuss them if you want. Otherwise ... peace :)

What I’m doing with my life

I still work for Cisco (who bought the Pure Networks in August 2008) and plan to stay at it. My boss is great and has been very understanding about the move (I have always worked remotely so it really won't impact my job much except for fewer choices of flights when I need to travel).

I do have my backup plan started for when I finally do leave the computer field. If all goes well I've got a pretty good fund going for starting a business in Norman with my brother some day. But for the forseeable future I'm enjoying this job and well ... they pay darned good.

Otherwise I'm just enjoying my time here in Oklahoma finally getting to spend time with family that I've been away from for so many years.

I’m really good at

Procrastinating. I mean ... mulling over a project until its almost past due and then pulling off superb work. I really do do better if I let something ruminate in the background. Off-line processing?

I make good Mead (honey wine), though I haven't done it for a couple of years.

I have an adeptness at picking up new skills. I can do graphic design for a marketing project one day, project management for a new product another, product demos another day, and sing my lungs out (mostly in private) to my iPod while going between them all.

I'm also good at seeing situations from multiple viewpoints. Ever notice that if you see something from different positions you can often be LESS likely to act? So now I'm working on keeping perspective but focusing on action once done.

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes, which are blue/gray and or my smile/laugh, which can be a bit goofy (sometimes a bit nefarious). If I've got my beard on (97.5% of the time) they notice that and the fact that both it and my hair are starting to go silver (from dark brown).

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I recently started reading Chuck Palahniuk. Some of it is terrific (I loved Rant and Survivor). Some of it is ... not quite there for me. And yes, 2 short stories STILL gross me out a bit.

I like good science fiction ... "good" is relative so my version of good tends to have more focus on story/plot and less focus on gadgets/technobabble/drama. I just finished the Dark Tower series. I started it way back when Gunslinger first hit print, so it was more of a child-hood thing for me. I was pretty unimpressed with the next to the last book, but the final book tied it all together.

*) Its not really a book, but its not really music either, so I'll just add in the middle of everything that I greatly enjoy NPR and similar programs and get alot of my news from there, though I do still TiVo ABC's nightly news to make sure I haven't skimmed past something.

b) hrmm, I don't have one genre I watch. I enjoy almost any well crafted flick. Documentaries, historical drama, sci-fi, comic book characters, thrillers, its almost all good. I don't really dig gore for the sake of gore (though there are some hilarious horror movies out there). I thought the new Star Trek finally got the chain back to where it needed to be and am happy to wait for the next. I thought Terminator:Salvation started out very good and showed all the things we wanted to see after the first movie ... and then the 2nd half of the movie copped out and went all sappy yet again.

c) I enjoy jam bands like Disco Biscuits, String Cheese Incident, etc. I love Flogging Molly. Instrumental Celtic tradional is also great. Old 60s/70s folk/rock. Blues Traveler. I like Bluegrass though I'm not too familiar with it. Lots of other stuff I'll listen depending on my mood. Most of my listening tends to be on the Sirius "Jam On" station. Lately my biggest musical addiction/addition has been Ben Harper (solo, Innocent Criminals, Blind Boys of Alabama, its all good). I finally found my old Morphine and Cake music recently, too, and am overjoyed!

d) Mexican food (not texmex) could be my daily staple. I love good fish/seafood. Italian is romantic. I cook a great chili.

The six things I could never do without

How many people put "air, food, water"? I thought about it, but its trite after its repeated, so:

* Liberty * Curiosity * Trust * Family * Hope * Good food and spirits

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Randomness.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out with friends and family, going on a date (not often enough, Friday actually seems to get less dates than most weekdays), traveling, watching a movie ... did I cover all the bases?

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

You should message me if

You've read the profile, are curious/interested about something, and nothing made you go "WHAT!?" Well, as long as it wasn't a BAD "WHAT!?" then message me anyway.

Are you fun-loving, mellow, more on the liberal/libertarian side of life? Hippies, Geeks and Brainiacs welcome. Are you all three? Definitely buzz me. Are you not sure if you're any of those but you saw stuff in my profile that was interesting? Drop me a line.
