My self-summary
I'm looking for a real connection with a real woman. I'm honest and direct and I'd love to find someone that can say the same thing about themselves. I'm looking to fall in love. I don't expect this to happen overnight and I'm willing to put the time and work in to make it happen. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I'm a major romantic. I'd love to find an attractive, considerate, and affectionate woman who wants to be with me as much as I want to be with her. Someone to explore new places with, go on a hike, or to cuddle on the couch, eat pizza, and watch a movie. I'm a single father to an eight year old son and I have a good relationship with my ex-wife. We share custody. I find intelligence sexy and personality is much more important to me than looks. I've been considered weird and quirky just about my entire life and I'm definitely okay with that. I'm certainly not perfect. In fact, I can be lazy and stubborn and my sense of humor does NOT always go over as well as I'd like. Even though I'm very outgoing, sometimes I feel socially awkward and quiet. Also, I don't have nearly as much hair on my head as I used to. If you need a man with a full head of hair, you better keep looking. I'm not everyone's cup of tea, but maybe I'm yours. Mutual chemistry is a mystery to me. My ideal partner is confident, fun, social, mildly sarcastic, cultured, adventurous, curious, intelligent, and open-minded. I consider myself to be intelligent and down to earth. By day I work for a non-profit, and one night a week I host a trivia game in a restaurant. I also do some acting/improv. I love to laugh and to make others laugh. I really don't get embarrassed, it's hard to offend me, I have a pretty thick skin, and it takes a LOT to shock me. I love music, movies, reading, anything outdoors, the arts, fashion, trivia, history, cooking, etc., etc., ad infinitum. I'm very loyal, affectionate, and communicative. I enjoy the simple things in life. I like to think that I'm easy to talk to and I'm looking for someone who enjoys a solid conversation. I'm told that I have a nice smile, pretty eyes, and that I'm a good story-teller. I'm looking for my one and only.
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to help others through my career in social work, working hard to ensure my son is well-rounded, trying to be a good father and a good person. I'm planning on enrolling in Wayne State's online program for Social Work to further my career.
I’m really good at
I'm a good listener, kissing, I excel in trivia/useless information, quoting movies, identifying songs and bands, public speaking, vocabulary usage, being a good dad, and I pride myself on being a major romantic and a gentleman. I have a really good memory, I can start a campfire with one match, and hopefully, I'll be good at sharing my life with someone.
The first things people usually notice about me
Physically, I'd say my eyes or my voice. Personality, I'm told pretty often that I'm funny. Even though I don't like my smile, I'm told I have a nice one. Go figure.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
This is a great category and I could list about a million favorites. So, just to name a few... Books: The Road, The Catcher in the Rye, 1984, Native Son, anything by Eric Bogosian, Anka Radakovich, or David Pelzer, In Cold Blood, The Devil in the White City, The Veldt, Listen to the Silence, The Blackboard Jungle, poetry. Movies: Young Frankenstein, Fandango, any and all mob movies, all of John Hughes' movies, Sleepers, The Hunt for Red October, This is Spinal Tap, Pulp Fiction, Dazed and Confused, Joe Dirt, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Wizard of Oz, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Do the Right Thing, Butterflies Are Free, Basquiat, To Sir With Love, anything Monty Python, etc. Plays/Musicals: Phantom, Wicked, Rent, Hair. TV: No Reservations, Jeopardy, Lost, Pushing Daisies, Oz, The Twilight Zone, Saturday Night Live, In Living Color, Once Upon A Time, the History Channel, Hell's Kitchen. (Yes, I realize most of these shows are off the air.) Music: I'm a HUGE music fan so... The Beatles, Sinatra, Foo Fighters, Matthew Sweet, Neil Diamond, Chris Isaak, Dave Brubeck, Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Ani DiFranco, Johnny Cash, Amanda Marshall, Renee Olstead, Henry Rollins, Living Colour, Guns n' Roses, jazz, blues, rockabilly, swing, punk, ska, big band, old school rap, old school country, bluegrass, Karrin Alyson, John Coltrane, Nat King Cole, Michael Penn, NPR, WDET, CBC Radio 2, I could go on and on and on. Food: Food is my main motivator in life so if it's put in front of me, I'll probably eat it. Sad, but true. There's really not much that I don't like. Steak, sushi, Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Polish, vegetarian, etc. Plus, I like to cook and grill. I also have a deep love for Toblerone, Kraft Three Cheese Mac and Cheese, cider and donuts, and hot corned beef sandwiches. (The sandwiches remind me of my grandfather.)
The six things I could never do without
My son, music, affection, good food, good conversation, laughter. Seventh and eighth, companionship and intimacy. My record collection too.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think a lot about Grape Nuts cereal. It's not grapes, it's not nuts. Why is my profile viewed by so many women in other states? Seriously though, my son, going back to school, and finding the right woman for me. I also spend a lot of time trying to figure out how I can transition my career toward working with my ideal population, kids or adults with developmental disabilities. That's where my heart and my passion lie. Lastly, does anyone actually read this?
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm either home relaxing, volunteering somewhere, or I'm hanging out with my son. I see him six out of seven days a week and I have him every other weekend. I'd be happy having dinner and a movie in, or dinner out somewhere like Royal Oak, Ferndale, Plymouth, or Detroit, and exploring the local shops. Also appealing is going to an art exhibit, seeing a play or a musical, enjoying nature, live trivia games, seeing a comedy show, you get the idea.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
As of early December, I wear a hearing aid on my left ear. Most people don't even notice it. I love redheads. My first kiss, of sorts, was in kindergarten. I kissed a girl's stomach. I find whistling to be profoundly annoying. I try very, very hard to never use the word, hate. I don't like to dance. After I take a shower I rinse off in cold water. I'm a sucker for a pretty smile and I prefer women who describe themselves as curvy. Sadly, I don't have cable. I was bullied in junior high. No, none of these facts are private but that's the best I've got.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 36–46
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For long-term dating
You should message me if
If you want a Sunday kind of love. Message me if you're still reading this and you think that we may hit it off, or because you want to hang out with me at the greatest store ever, IKEA. Ideally, you live within 30 minutes of me. I'd really prefer to meet someone who knows the difference between your and you're, an intelligent, considerate, romantic, outdoorsy, articulate woman with a sense of humor. I know you exist! Also, I'm a firm believer that amore vincit omnia. If you know what that means, than perhaps you're perfect for me!

I've been in a lot of strange and unique situations. For example, being involved in a law enforcement search for a murderer, assisted in putting out a structure fire when I was 13, discovered a dead body, I was in a car accident involving a semi truck, and Jeff Daniels, (the actor,) once hit me with his hand. (I hit him back.) Plus, I had to remove a screwdriver from my leg that was thrown at me. The story of how I lost my virginity is pretty damn entertaining too.

Update: Don't message me if... you can't have a conversation, you're inconsiderate, you're materialistic, you're homophobic, xenophobic, or racist. If you're super shy, uncomfortable making eye contact, desire a man with a full head of hair, or really, really into sports, we probably won't be a good match.

As of 6/26/14, apparently no one reads this next sentence. By the way, if someone indicates that they "like" me on this site, I appreciate it but I'm unable to see who you are because I'm not an A-list member. If you think you like me and want to talk, send me a message!

I wish I could meet someone organically but it doesn't seem to be in the cards for me.
